    Call centre cretins

Having recently lost my wife i know I'm a bit sensitive, however, where do they get these people to make these calls ??? With in days of her death i was plagued with calls about Funeral plans, Life assurance and Will writing services offered free if it included a charitable donation. Was my own demise imminent and publicly known ???

During her illness we even had a call to say a prescription in her name had been collected on her behalf claiming fee exemption. Whilst it had been confirmed by the NHS collection agents that her illness was terminal and therefore qualified for exemption, the GP practice had not issued her exemption certificate. (My wife had been treated privately so after referral no more GP contact) She was fined £125.00. The vile creature on the other end of the lines comment when told by my wife she was about to enter the hospice was "This matter needs urgent settlement then"...
Just where do they recruit these people from ???

While there are more than a few ambulance chasers out there, you probably are feeling a bit raw at the moment, so even tiny things will be magnified.

My advice is don't bottle it up. Talk to someone about your loss, you can't avoid grieving, but you can make it easier.

Really sorry to hear about that, Bower.

After the initial shock and sadness, I hope you can start to celebrate the life she had.

I wonder about these people too. I thought I had a shit day/week, dealing with a sociopathic real estate agent and other types. But I think that is the answer : they are sociopathic, with no real empathy for other humans.

If it makes you feel better, just tell em to fuck off.

If these are land line calls i'd suggest the BT8500 or BT8600 phones, will block all calls not in your phone book/contacts.

I worked for the DHSS in London and it was my job to ensure that those who made policy understood its practical implications. On one occasion I had to draw attention to the fact that this opening to a letter was inappropriate.

    Dear Sir,

I am pleased to inform you that you are suffering from Farmer's Lung.......

On another occasion when checking on the standard of work in a South West office I noticed that they had 100 outstanding claims for Attendance Allowance. Minimal work was required to process these but they were left.

Being a reasonably intelligent man, I ordered my staff to drop what they were doing and do some checking. My suspicions were confirmed when they found out that 10 of these seriously ill people had already died without receiving their benefit.

The manager responsible retired before the end of my visit.

Thanks again for the kind words chaps.
As family we are drawing on each others strengths and will get through this.
I have filled in some form from the registrars office which is meant to stop the calls and unsolicited junk mail.

I was just thinking who in their right mind decides to take a job relentlessly hounding the perceived vulnerable. I have been through some difficult times (job wise) myself in years past, but these call centre creeps are unbelievable .
I must think up some wind ups to take sweet revenge, any suggestions ??

Very sorry to hear about your loss. People preying on the vulnerable in their time of grief is inhuman.

Pretend that you are interested in their telephone call and waste as much of their time as you can. Then, when you have had enough fun with them, tell them to "piss off". Always works for me.

Ask them for their home phone number and you call them back.

I have noticed that is one of ENT's main strategies on this forum !

Seriously...do a search for the words "now piss off" under his name.

A few years ago my son was riding his bicycle home from school. He was hit by a Toyota Kluger SUV which belonged to a large Australian Telco who self-insured.
My son was taken to hospital but luckily apart from a bent back wheel to his bike and many cuts grazes and bruises he was OK.
A week later after the incident, while my son was still recuperating, I was contacted by the Telcos Lawyers and asked to pay a $5000 repair bill for the car as my son was at fault in the accident. I hurled a torrent of abuse at the lawyer and hung up.
Not my first run in with Lawyers and in my experience, many of them are the lowest form of life.
By the way, they tried to take me to court but I was able to prove that the car driver had lied about who was at fault and that his version of the accident was just not possible. Those incompetent Lawyers would have known that if they'd checked out his story.

Sorry for your loss Bower and the harassment...in my early years in real estate in California there were agents who daily browsed the obituaries and would actually call the bereaved families trying to get listing contracts...they never thought there was anything wrong with it but it made me sick to think about it

It's all part of the degeneration of our morals in modern life, Bower.
I remember the first time a friend told a group of us that someone had called him on his own phone and tried to sell him something. It was 1975, and we were incredulous. "WHAT ? On your own phone ? " we said.

You know some people had telephones at work, even in those days.

Sure, Warren, their employers', not their own personal line into the office, otherwise the company switchboard would be clogged up by gossipping typists. Taking personal calls during office time in those days was definitely not encouraged.
Unless, of course, lapdancer's pal was a gent's hairdresser or something.

Voices in your head again Warren?
Normally people read and understand the written word, but interestingly, you "hear" voices instead.
An interesting form of psychotic projection, but it figures in your case.
