Video – Terrifying moment as snake bites a man on the bottom in Thai internet shop

Terrifying moment as snake bites a man on the bottom in Thai internet shop

This is the terrifying moment a ‘feisty’ snake seemingly sprang out of nowhere and attacked a man by biting him on the bottom.

In video of the shocking encounter, the slithering creature appears to fly through the air when the unsuspecting internet cafe customer cracks open the door.

It immediately latches on to his bottom sending the man running for safety in the venue in the Wiset Chai Chan District of Ang Thong, Thailand.
But its sharp teeth are clamped on so hard that he is forced to kick the snake then roll on the floor in a bid to shake it off.

It creates pandemonium in the internet cafe with other customers hit by his volley of kicks and a chair knocked over.

As the others flee for cover some of them can’t help but laugh at the panicking man’s dramatic reaction to the rat snake.

An alternate angle shows the snake springing out of a storage unit seemingly unprompted and flying through the door.

Rat snakes are not venomous and kill their prey using constriction – but online commenters have said the experience would have been terrifying for the man.

Juan Valdez said: ‘I would die in that situation.’

Yesterday, I saw the biggest snake I have ever seen loose, on the road just a few houses up from mine. Made me sick at the stomach. Think it was a huge rat snake.

I'm afraid to leave the dogs in the yard or the dog door unlocked. A much smaller snake found it's way into the house a couple of years ago.

Now, I am a fan of snakes and leave them alone but I sure hope someone catches this one and eats him.

A Thai restaurant owner lady in Pranburi got bitten 3 different times by different snakes over the years, that count is for 7 years ago, may be added some since, not sure what attracts them to her...

Went for a drink with a friend there, he was scanning well under the table before to seat each time.

    .
I've seen everything from cobras to pythons in Thailand and Malaysia, and almost stood on a couple of snakes when I was jogging. You can mostly get anti-venom if you're bitten, but if a big python gets a grip on you, you be fucked. The only ways to get it to release are to pour vinegar or strong alcohol down its gob.

A bit difficult to do if it's coiling around you at the time and crushing every bone in your body...

Rat snakes can be very lively. I had a rat snake enter my hotel reception area a few years back. Big bugger ==> 3 metres. I was trying to throw it back out of the entrance door with a piece of blue plastic pipe when 2 Chinese guests walked through that door!

I have never seen 2 humans jump 10 metres backwards as quick as they did.

I almost wet my pants (hang on - that was the other thread 'bleed bleed bleed')

That horizontal air running on the floor routine's a surefire winner.

I've had an encounter with a rat snake in Chiang Mai.It went for the cat and then went for me.Never moved so fast in my life. They are nasty aggressive mother fcukers.

The bite is not too nice either. Not venomous, but almost 100% chance of infection.

    ^^

Name: Ptyas mucosus (Oriental rat snake). Previously known as Ptyas mucosa.

    Thai: (ngu sing hang lai)

Length: Up to 370 cm but usually under 3 meters.

Range: Throughout Thailand, and common in Hua Hin area.

Habitat: The Oriental Rat snake prefers open forests, and at times comes into residential areas. I have had a number of ID requests for these snakes found in gardens. It is terrestrial, and arboreal, but spending most time on the ground.

Active Time: These snakes are active during the day and at dawn. At night the snakes can be found sleeping in loose rolls on bushes and in the branches of trees.

Description: Long, thick snake somewhat resembling and possibly mistaken for a king cobra. There are distinctive black lines on the lower jaw which are distinctive. The snake is brown bodied, with light bands on the base of the neck and mid-body, turning to black bands toward the tail.

Food: An opportunistic feeder, P mucosa eats rodents, lizards, frogs, birds, and other small animals, The oriental rat snake has a triangle cross-section with a well-defined vertebral ridge which can indicate it may be a snake eater. While at the Queen Saovabha Snake Institute in Bangkok, Thailand I took a photo of this snake taking the head of Coelognathus radiata (radiated rat snake) into its mouth and then letting it go. If hungry, it is certainly big enough to eat a 2 meter long C radiata.

Large snakes of this species do not have venom, nor do they constrict prey. They simply crush them with their body weight. This snake often eats prey while it is still alive.

Defensive Behavior: This snake is not a big biter, despite its size and significant strength. Some bite, some don’t. Rat snakes have some flexibility in how they strike, and can do so from many different positions. They need not rear back to strike.

Danger: Danger of a strong bite which may get infected. No venom or delivery system.

    Venom Toxicity: N/A

Offspring: Mating takes place between April and June typically. Approximately 60 days after successful mating females lay 6-18 eggs. In approximately 60 days the young hatch. Length of hatchlings is between 36-47 centimeters and the snakes are very light brown. (Info primarily from Siam-info.de)
