An "arrogant" female backpacker caused outrage on a coach when she put her "rancid" smelly feet next to another passenger's head.

The woman, believed to be French, was branded "arrogant" and refused to remove her feet from the chair.
Narong Thaopanya, 21, was travelling on the coach from Bangkok to Sukhothai province in northern Thailand on March 30.

He was overcome by a rancid smell when the young woman was sat in the seat behind him and put her sweaty feet on top of the chair at his side.
Narong politely asked her to take down her feet but she refused to listen - staring at him and putting her legs up again.

The army reservist recorded the woman took pictures of her "arrogant behaviour".
He said: ‘"This woman's face was beautiful but she had no manners.



"The smell from her feet was filling the whole bus. It was hot and made me feel sick, because her feet were next to my head.
"I asked her many times to put her legs on the ground and she would not do it. She just kept them in the air."


Narong said visitors to other countries should show respect and think about whether they would act in such a way if they were at home.

He said: "Somebody will have to use the seat and put their head where her dirty feet have been.

"Would she have done this in her own country? If think that she thought she could get do it because she is a woman.
"People should be more respectful when they are visitors to other people’s countries."

The Thais aren't good at proportional responses:

1 A customer questions his bill and is beaten senseless

2 This moron with her feet on the guy's seat back and they don't escort her off the bus...

A pin would be handy at times like that. Do they not have books on thai etiquette(?) translated into frog yet? I have made it a personal mission in life to avoid back packers wherever they may be.

Why didn't he complain to the driver?

On most buses they have special window breaking hammers mounted along the sides. A sharp blow to the arch of the foot with this robust little tool would without doubt persuade the ignorant bitch to move her feet off the headrest.

I bet her armpits stank too.

Probably a fishy smell, the way she's sitting...

The inability of some Thai to assert themselves without resorting to 'pack animal' attacks and homicidal mania never ceases to amaze.

After a polite request to desist from boorish behaviour is declined, one escalates by either stabbing her in the foot with a pin or some other sharp implement or one ignites a cigarette lighter under it.
Simple, really, but FB and a sullen silence seems preferable to some. Actually, I don't understand how this happened - any long distance bus journey I have been on is usually marshalled by the driver and his assistant quite well and any anti-social behaviour is usually nipped in the bud.

Even if her feet didn't smell, putting them up there near someones head is just as bad.

Nobody else complained because they were asleep, or maybe the smell wasn't so bad.

I've seen Thais complain about a farang on a minivan trip to Trat. The young backpacker type was singing along with his headphones, annoying everybody. One young guy prodded him and used sign language to gesture his complaint.

No problems, the guy realised, switched off his music and went to sleep.

Last flight I took I was in a cast. Asked for front row seating to stretch the fegging painful limb.

None were available. Got wheel-chaired to the gate and onto the plane.

A Frog sit in the seat in front of me. And fully reclines his seat. I was exhausted at this stage (ever had a shitty cast on your leg). Asked the FA to ask the Frog to un-recline his seat a little, pointing to my useless limb in a cast.

He did. For a minute. Then reclined it as far back as it would go, as if to say "Fog you fer maging me lift my seat".

I was too exhausted, physically, to get into a battle with him.

Flight lands, and the POS asks me to get his antique paintings from the stow ahead two seats behind me.
