How long can you live without the internet...?

One of the first things I do every morning is switch on the PC so I can browse while I'm having a cuppa... the modern man's morning paper I guess. Does my life revolve around my PC..? Too much I think, though not as much as it does for some.

    Oxygen or internet.

Internet wins. Without it I'd be broke and working for a living.

I tried once. Made it a few minutes but I've got one of those google glasses welded to the side of my head.

Addicted to social networking, Skype, email, mindless browsing and reading articles. I'd go loopy without it. Mobile internet is a lifeline to the world outside of Myanmar for me. I'd probably slide into mild to moderate depression without it due to feeling more isolated.

Have net on all day whilst in Thailand, living in a village I'd go nuts without it.

Back in UK don't get much time these days, only work related, though still look but don't do forums etc.

NO ... I don't even have FaceBook ... not even remotely interested in social networking.

Can't imagine what would become of those dependent, dullard, and catatonic populations/character if the interwebs were to cease tomorrow..

One's stimulation and imagination/thought threshold has been long compromised and remade -

    Weak.

My internet clock has it at 4:23 PM in Jidda.

I remember when wifi and adsl were down for a few days after a lightning storm last year. One bolt fried the router.

I was moping a bit till I remembered I had downloaded and stored some porn.

I can live without the Internet easily enough but I do keep a couple of potassium cyanide pills beside my computer in case there's a long outage. Belt and braces.

I don't want internet on my iPhone. As poor as local cable tv is, it pulls me out of the computer chair for a couple of hours in the evening. I always read myself to sleep for at least an hour...so, in all, not totally addicted...but I do start to sweat if I'm in the middle of a project and the internet goes down...

People say that, then they get it, and realize how nice it makes life.

Now, if you are one of those who are prone to walking down the street staring at your screen and crashing into things, or not driving forward when the light turns green due to the distraction, then maybe you should not.

At home yes, never really bother 'surfing' on the train or out and about, too lazy and I often leave my glasses at home.

An old mate used to have all these spying conspiracy theories and called it the 'inter-threat' and suggested I try going without for a month.

After two weeks I was climbing the fucking walls, bored shitless. Some would suggest my life is empty and shallow because of that, and yes, they would be correct indeed.

^ Its more engaging than most television watching. You do actually have to press keys and such. More useful? Only occasionally.

Every day all day tbh. News, streaming movies, downloading entertainment, social media, phone calls, job searches and playing games. I went home to see my Dad for a fortnight and he had no WIFI in his house so I spent a lot of time in the local drinking instead.

With the tv full of adverts every 5 minutes, I often can't be bothered, I'll watch what I want later.

Adblock Plus ensures I can usually surf freely without hindrance.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. Not being able to get my daily paper started it but then I no longer needed it. I miss doing the crosswords but little else....Dad still asks me the clues he hasn't answered over the 'phone, which he still feels is my main purpose in life...

I use it every evening for 3 hours on online teaching using Skype video. I teach mostly Vietnamese kids in Hanoi (so I guess their internet connection is not always good). I'm in the middle of Myanmar, which only 'discovered' the internet a few years back. So trying to get a stable and fast internet connection is like looking for a virgin in Pattaya.

If my hotel wi-fi is not up to speed, I run down the road to the 5-star hotel next door, buy a coffee and use their wi-fi.

If both hotels have no wi-fi, then I fall back on my mobile phone 3g connection. Since the speed can vary according to time of day and network, I actually have a data SIM installed for each of the 3 mobile networks (Ooredoo, Telenor, MPT).

My speednet Android app tells me which network is mostly likely to support a call.

This evening, I was away from the hotel (school staff party), but still had to do an online lesson. Boy, did I struggle to keep the connection up on Skype. I ditched the video and was hopping between all 3 mobile networks.....

Still, I managed to earn my $$$ for the night (well, maybe $)
