You know your back in Thailand

Finally arrived back in LOS. Plane arrived around 6am. At least it wont be busy at the airport (I foolishly thought). Long lines everywhere. As always happens I always run into someone I know on the plane. Whoever named it LOS must've missed the passport control staff. As I arrived early thought I would go straight to the house. Took the train to phaya thai then the BTS to wang Wian Yai and then the SRT to Bang Bon. The old rail line to Mahachai fascinates me. 1 because it doesn't derail no matter how much it bounces on the track and 2, The ticket inspector clips the tickets although the train is free for Thais but they still must get a ticket. Myself had to pay 6 baht and I think I was the only one on the train who paid for a ticket. Now Lunch time I will attempt a small travelog.

Welcome aboard Hugh, I'm also from your neck of the woods back West.

    Are you staying in/near Bangkok?

We arrived 2 weeks ago will will be staying another 2, maybe more.

BTW, who, on Earth did you fly with?

We flew Thai out of BNE and we arrived on time, about 8pm local time and there was NO_ONE in the queues and the luggage was out in 10 mins!

I flew out of swampy yesterday, couldn't believe how long it took to get a boarding pass, get the bag scanned, get stamped in , fooking chinks were everywhere , despite being there 2 hours before my flight I got to the gate just as they were boarding, faaark what an ordeal.

Tried to get a taxi today with the mrs from Suk soi 7 to Param 2, not far from Bang Bon really, 12 of the fukers would not go even with no meter, er that's against the law of course. Finally decide to get one to Klong Toey market and get the 141 bus, not good either but at least one offers 200 baht for the 60 baht ride. The 14th taxi agrees to go to the market on the meter, took about 20 minutes to get one. Bus not great with suitcases of course.

On the way the clever bugger offers to go all the way for 300 baht, I agree and it's only the 3rd time in 24 years I agree to no meter, I do so cos I know the real price is at least 320 to our house which is further than he thinks Mrs knocks him down to 250 so the daft sod is out of pocket, severs him right. I thought they had 'cracked down' on taxi no going and no meter? Depends where you are of course lower suk central world and Pratunam always seem bad, must give the tourists a good impression.

I always want to call and report them of course but the mrs does not want to make a problem, backward Thailand again.

I think this was the first mistake but I don't know how big the suitcase was. Get BTS to Phrakhanong walk 100m to Rama 4 ask same question. ( expressway entrance is close)

But I do understand. My latest is tell the taxi driver to go forth and multiply if the passenger window lowers as he is stopping.

Some of my friends have discovered taxi bouncing from shopping mall to shopping mall. So Soi 7 to Tesco Rama 4, Tesco to Big C on Rama 3, Big C to Big C Rama II. That may not be the logical choice but only shown as an example.

Or BTS to Wong Wian Yai and taxi etc.

Mrs is allergic to the BTS for some reason, I would have gone to wong wian yai then taxi or bus 76, but she is illogical. What's the number for reporting the lazy shits? I am going to start doing it, worth the effort to try and make things better all this mai pan rai only perpetuates the situation. People should stop opening the doors and asking, they need to start getting in the telling the driver where they are going.

Arrived at Rang pho station. Note the width of platform 2. The railway is a single track with a couple of dual tracks for passing

Cycling today out of Chanthaburi city, road widening, the Thai version of stop/go men, two blokes 400m apart with a red flag each, no means of communication
    Bound to succeed
I'm red-flag waved through, by #1, over half way before #2 had decided to let his vehicles through, after all, only a cyclist. I waited in a ditch till it was clear
Return trip 40 min later, chaos. Road machines not working, no flag men.
12.10pm. They'd all cleared out for lunch, cars from both ends had decided it was clear. Nose to nose, nowhere to go.
I was able to walk my bike through, leave them to it.

The worst part is walking from Wang wian yai to SRT. takes about 20 minutes. The train from WWY to Bang Bon is only 20 minutes. The taxi if i remember is about 45 mins so about the same but no traffic jams on the train and 6 baht as well as a more enjoyable journey.

I know my back wherever I am. I don't see it that often so I suppose I don't know it that well but I'd bloody well know if someone took it off me and tried to replace it with another one.

had the same shit on Wednesday the fookers wanted to haggle for 300 baht for what I know is a 50 or 70 baht ride, just takin the piss really, didn't want to turn on the meter. I was only in bangers for the day and a night and probably used about 10 taxis that day all of them were whiney fookers who just wanted to talk about how little money they made and how Thailand baw Dee now, and how government baw Dee also, yeah well. I'm not about to speak politics with somchai just grinned and nodded, after all I was on my way to a gogo bar.
