Is 5,000 baht too much ??

Woman I know is telling me she needs to send home 5 grand a week, to support 2 daughters, Mum and Dad, and keep the family car running. Family home is in the north, rubber plantation area.

    Sensible or gold digger ?

    Thanks for helpful replies.

Go live up North and see if you can live on 20,000 baht a month to support 4 people.

How well do you know her, and what are your responsibilities to her and her family.

You should at least send her some of your old pinion wheels, spark plugs and and a jar or two of swarfega to help with the car.

Tell her that it's best she gets a bladdy job then.

Tell her you'll make up the rest because you're such a good man.

    Done. She should be delighted.

Indeed. More information needed. Having said that, 5,000 a week for a family of 4 running car certainly doesn't sound like "gold digger" speak.

Too many bone idle Thais depending on daughters for money, you never hear much about sons forking out 20k a month, it's blackmail.

Tradition has it for daughters to be more of the caretakers for the parents, though in fairness, it's not terribly uncommon for good sons to contribute towards their welfare as well...

And every familial situation will differ from the next.

Woman I know is code for a Thai girl that I met online pretending to love me, duping me all the way.

In many circles, the story never changes - only the players are different as the theatre remains the same.

It is quite a bit when she has three or four other gullible westerners paying the same each month.

Get a clue and save yourself 5000/month along with doing some research on the money extraction games played here.

5000 baht a week seems a bit steep , considering a family of four with two dogs, cats, goldfish and gerbil can survive on that amount quite comfortably in somewhere like Merthyr Tydfil .

Well the woman has been forthright in stating that is the amount she needs for her family back home.

is it enough money...to say that she is asking too much? no. but they will be comfortable IF they are frugal. if there's gambling and other shenanigans going on, they will need more than that. that's what i'd worry about, especially given how much you dont know whats going on there.
