A visit to a Swiss Hospital

Last month, Pats was not a well kitty. I had bad bronchitis, had to cancel Xmas plans etc. Misdiagnosed by a doctor who should have retired years ago etc. Ended up last Monday in Emergency Dept where i sat for 8 hours.

Result was that i had a lung cavity filled with liquid gunk which needed drained. My poor left lung was the size of a grapefruit and 4.5 litres of gunk was pumped out through a very sexy tube over the course of four days into a little suitcase i had to carry around with me. Uncomfortable and painful. The lung is now stretched out and working.

This gunk was tested in a lab.

Outcome. you go in with bronchitis and come out with lung and stomach cancer!!

This little bit of info is still sinking in, I got home this morning and had the first good cry in a few days big lung wrenching sobs echoed around the place, and then i lit a cig. Fuck it, i am a smoker, I have been good and not smoked for at least three weeks and shit i needed it.

So, my friends with cancer out there. I am your latest addition.

Apart from that, the care and attention from both surgeons, doctors and nurses was the best. So kind, understandinng etc.

They say that there are only two little tumours so they should be able to zap them efficiently. My first appointment will be this Thursday to work out a schedule.

The Hospital is a University Hospital, the HUG, so all treatment from A to Z goes on in the one place. I am well insured and my family is rallying around me. I shall talk to my friends individually face to face in the next few days.

Updates as i start this journey into the unknown. You can read or not - up to you!!

Hate to hear that, Patsy. You're a strong woman and you'll be able to weather this bad spell just fine. Lots of good wishes and love going out to you.

So sorry to hear this horrible news Patsy. I know exactly how you're feeling.

    BUT

Follow what they say but question everything until you understand.

Research the diagnosis on the internet. There are plenty of people out there who have been through the same thing and they have a lot of information which can help.

As an example I was prescribed monthly chemo. Research has shown there is little difference in the efficacy of monthly over 3 monthly treatment.
My Docs accepted this and it will make a difference.

It used to annoy me when people spoke about their "battle" with cancer. You do what the Docs say and get lucky or not where's the "battle" in that.
Over the last 18 months my attitude has changed. Your frame of mind, your day to day habits can make a difference. For me the difference has been mental more than anything. I've gone from stolid acceptance of death in 2-4 years which I found to be depressing, but acceptable to somehow now being far more optimistic.

Cancer is a bastard but people are getting through it you may well be one of them. Get the information, have the recommended treatment, and see where you are in a month.

    Good luck.

    Sorry to hear that Patsy.

You're somewhere with exceptional medical facilities and as you've said good insurance.

    You'll be fine.

However, the man on high is giving you a message.

Give up the smokes and the booze and look after yourself.

Sorry to hear the news. Little I can add. I did a bad round five years ago, and was pretty sure at one point I wasn't coming through it, but I did. You have good health care there. Do what they say, and try to stay positive...even though it's tough at times. We all look forward to your full recovery.

All the best to you Patsy and be thankful you caught it early. I did with my cancer surgery and after 2 years it's still gone. Always ask for second opinions.

Good luck with it all, Patsy. As Eliminator said, you are lucky you/they caught it early. Perhaps the bronchitis was a blessing in disguise. Chin up.

Not that it's any consolation but I had a friend who was riddled with the big C and fought it for 10 years.

You've caught it early and have great medical care and support

Mend well soon, all the best.

Like everyone else on TD I am very sorry to hear this news. The good news is that with such an early diagnosis, the treatment success rate is high these days.
Stay positive; stick with the program and you will be fine.

All the very best to you.

That's phucking tough and rough Patsy. but you'll get through it. Please stay strong.... You're lucky to be living in a country with advance medical facilities and technology. A second and third opinion would prolly be good, as well. Hugs to you Pat. I'm not really a church person, but today I'll say a prayer for you.

A certain aplomb, to be sure...Brings us closer together...Don't think I'd post it, myself, but again, I just don't know...

Thinking of you, patsy...Know very little about you...

From another corner of the wilderness, a warm hug...

    Thinking of you...
