Keeping a loaded gun in your house.

I have just been inspecting the dog's gun that he keeps in his house here in Jomtiem and I was struck by the fact that he keeps it loaded. When I questioned the fact that he kept it loaded, he said, and allow me to quote him verbatim.

"It dont farkin' work wivout bullets you stupid Aussie Australian from Aussie land."

So is it a good idea to keep a loaded weapon in your house?

If you have a gun for home protection, as the dog hinted one upon a time, It's only useful with bullets wve an empty gun around and; get shot. better to do the shooting

I agree that it makes sense to keep the gun loaded. The problem is that it may be used in an argument then, especially when you are pissed.

Perhaps I should just add that the dog is off his chops just now and when his galfriend saw him twirling it, Roy Rogers stylee, she flew into one and wrestled it away from him,

Phew.

So anyway, that introduces another factor into this question about keeping a loaded weapon in yer house.
Should drunken pommie builders from Jomtiem be allowed to keep a loaded weapon in thier house when they clearly have delusions of being Roy fokking Rogers?

Anyway it takes less room than a horse would!

Think he might be playing with it to get your knickers ina twist? Folks that kept guns, for any length of time, usually learn to not play with 'em when they've had too many.

I have said before that two of my friends carry loaded guns at all times - real guns Glock's not one of DD snub nose things.

They both are gun dealers and are licenced to sell and own guns - does DD have a licence.

.38 spec. snubbie is a very real gun. and used as it is designed in a close-up last-ditch, damn-near, hand-to-hand defensive weapon is actually of more use than one of those fucking plastic clunky status pieces.
Could never understand why someone would design an autoloader that was double-action only.

Would never consider having a gun in my house ever. Not for any reason. Keeping it loaded is pretty bloody stupid as well. Kids are known for finding ways to load guns no matter how well the ammunition is hidden, the results are quite often tragic, as a quick google of America will prove. Then there is the whole issue of rage and acting without thinking. Guns are a bad idea all round.

I've only ever seen a few guns 'close up', and haven't fired one since my Dad let me shoot his rifle once, when we were out at sea on his prawn-trawler (he said he needed it for when sharks got caught in the nets)...which I presume is the same reason DD keeps one..
To be honest, guns give me the creeps, and thankfully I don't feel the need to own one.
I do have mind you, one of the nastiest electronic mosquito zappers in town and will spank you on the bottom with it Ice Maiden if I ever get my way

More people are killed by cars than guns, so let's ban cars! Guns without proper education, and respect will equate to accidental deaths and some folks can't control themselves. These people should be kept away from baseball bats and scissors as well.
Fact is; this is an area of the world where home-invasion robbery is common enough and life cheap enough, to warrant arming yourself, if you live out of the city center. Many victims of these type robberies end up dead.
Going armed is also a great deterrent, if the low-lifes know you're armed they'll target an easier family
Raising children with a gun in the home is a grave responiblity and must be approached with the goal of teaching proper respect and understanding of the power these small machines can deliver, it may not be for everyone.
If I lved in a high-crime locale in a somewhat isolated home; I'd be armed, Although for home protection; I prefer a shotgun.

I had a semi auto rifle until a few years ago when the government made me hand it in in a massive gun buy back scheme.

I had the gun in one part of the house, the bolt in another and the ammo in yet another part - all quite well hidden.

This is a complex question. It shouldn't be, but it is.

If a person keeps a loaded gun in their home it needs to be hidden very, very well.

Assuming it's for home protection, then it needs to be accessed quickly, but also well hidden.

I own about 7 guns. All are locked up.

Many people don't keep them out of reach from children or the actual criminals that may break into one's house.

hmmm, ok my gun is in this room, if I am not in this room it is locked, my son has a great respect for guns and I have taken him shooting quite often, he does not have a key for this room, my gun is purely for house protection, my place is 12 meters by 4 meters over several floors, you really dont need a auto for that sort of range of shooting.

Fok me, even the Irish lock their guns away and adhere to laws that ensure that ammunition is stored seperately. Often in the liquor cabinet but thats a whole different subject.

Has anyone here found actually themselves in a situation in Thailand where possession of a gun has helped or would have helped?

Does anyone know of home invasion situations where faranags have been killed or seriously injured (which didn't also have some drug or other criminal related background onnthe part of the victim)?

I'm not saying there aren't any...just can't recall reading about any since I've lived here that didn't have some element of the farang bringing it on themselves to a degree.
