The outlaws took out the price of the Thai wedding (about 60k) and returned the rest and the wife had some shit looking gold.
Everybody happy.
Although she does get fucked off when I forget to go home for a day/night, and also when i phone her at 3 am asking for a lift home, as i just discovered. Fukking trollied
I would post pictures but life's too short.
My personal experience is that a 'sin sot' is not required, not should be asked for.
But some sort of ceremony is appropriate. The term, in English, I believe is pronounced a 'smaar'.
In Thai ... สมา
Translates a 'Samaritans'
Maybe Nicethaiza knows this term?
The one I had experience with, between two Thais was 1 Baht gold, pigs head and bowls of fruit. There might have been some cash ... can't remember.
The woman had never been technically married but 2 kids and he was a motorcycle taxi rider.
We are Central Thailand and there maybe regional variances.
.
If the families/groom have fok all, nothing is paid, specially when she has kids, got nought to do with region.Originally Posted by David48atTD
it's still a big deal with most Thai families, I forked out 200k, got 100 back and most of the rest went on the wedding, I think they made a bit out of it but they never got anything since. It makes me smile when Johnny foreigner boasts he paid nowt on forums, when you know they married a whore from Pattaya or Bkk who had a few thousand through her, and left her with at least one kid.
I believe every negotiation is different, though there are some identifiable trends.
My experience is different to yours as this was between two Thais, one of those is a future SiL.
He's a Motorcycle taxi guy, lives at home with his parents (whose house I assume is theirs) so not brimming with cash.
In the "West," apparently "sin sod" is paid "big time" after the marriage is over...
Your "mileage" will vary...
My thai friend have to lived with her husband for 5 years ...then get married
after...the guy pay sin sod around 60,000 baht and 1 baht gold and they together
only 3 month after married then get divorce ...she told me money for sin sod they have to borrow
from someone else...
In thai many couple find sin sod together bofore marry not always guys have to
pay...the parent say if want to marry just help each other to find the
money...I mean the couple
My mate - who speaks Thai well, more or less told them to piss off. He's been with his GF for a few years who both work and can fend for themsleves. Early on they made it clear, but during a family meeting the ML to be asked for gold. He told them where to go and fortunately has a fiance who sticks by him. It was only the mother who was raging. The FL apparently stood by the decision.
I didn't pay. The FL thanked me during his wedding speech for building him a new shithouse!
You bullied, you laughed, you lied, you lost!
There are plenty of women from families who wouldn't dream of asking for sinsot but the prospective wife doesn't come from that sort of background or anything like it.
It 'makes me laugh' that some foreigners use such perverse 'logic' as yours to boast on forums that they bought their wives.
Yours,
JF.
Ah, well...As long as you're happy...Nothing wrong with marrying a "whore," too...
They are people, too, don't you know?...
true 100%
Nothing wrong with it, but paying sin sot for a whore is laughable, in terms of Thai culture. If you do marry a slapper the odds are even worse than normal for it working out, although we all know people like this who have been married for decades. Maybe we should have a did you marry a whore thread?
Maybe the whores should start a "Did you marry an asshole thread?"...
555...
Most of them did. The types dumb enough to marry prostitutes normally carry one with them after they get 'married'
