I reckon it might become an issue when a guy is genuinely duped.
When, for example, a woman, who has been married before, thus already having received a Sin Sot, and the added complication of also having kids asks for a sin sot way above what a Thai would pay.
Apparently, some even make a living from tagging western husbands. Never seen it myself though ... I fairly removed from the ex-pat social circles.
