A lot of that stuff just feels far too esoteric and joyless for me. I don't want deep and meaningful in my music unless it's paired with a bit of funky rhythm.
Dig this.
I'm well out of touch with todays music. Are ther any slick guitarists around in the new scene?
Oh man....are there.
I'll update you on a few here, then.
Soonly ciao for now
Don't get me wrong Cujo. I'm 46. I love the classics. When someone asks me: "Who are your favorite bands?" I say, "Well, not counting Floyd and Zep?"
But, that said...I've been stepping into the new more and more lately and I gotta' say:
There's some good fuckin' shit goin' on out there!
So,....here's a taste of mainly newish with a lean towards guitarists (Sorry Pat):
---
Wanna’ start with a personal friend:
Yeah, I wish they’d hang it up sometimes and Frusciante was magikal but is dead, yet Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers) is doing pretty well.
Currently on his 17th solo album, so he’s been around, but remaking his name lately.
Here are two really versatile, modern guitarists who are cutting a new path.
guitarists Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes of Animals as Leaders
Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes of Animals As Leaders discuss the features and benefits of using Ibanez 7 and 8-string guitars and how they influence their writing and performance. Ibanez caught up with them backstage at their Philadelphia, PA show in 2012.
Fuck all that guitar masturbation... mostly engineered in a studio and sounds wank live... anything more widdly diddly than Matt Bellamy is strictly for the tossers.
all you need is four simple chords and a good voice...
I present exhibit 1:anything more widdly diddly than Matt Bellamy is strictly for the tossers
pushing a 9.7 on the onanism-o-meter only the fact that this guy is truly gifted stops me from wanting to kick his head in
it's a fookin classic nah
this is a firm favorite on the playlist and another one I where I wish i had been there
I did listen to those for a few minutes and I think they just sound very flat and too forced because it's live.. all the widdly diddly stuff needs engineering to help it shine... not a bad thing or a lack of talent, but the body language of the crowd in the first video says it all, second video the timing is all over the place and the third video... well its like a garage pink floyd on wet Sunday afternoon.
It's all very pretentious and taken too seriously to be truly enjoyable... in my own opinion of course
Anyway... this is very unpretentious, rocking and a bit on the dark side.. they do a pretty good job of it live too for a group of young lads.. i hope you enjoy
great quality video for the year... 1980 I think
now that's a tune... and a very sexy video
don't know what this one is doing in there...
This is fun
NORWAY
10 rock/metal songs in 3 minutes
I like what you've put up, but then I'm pretty easy.
I think the reason I like these newer bands I've been putting up is two-fold:
1) I REALLY need something new on my playlist(s), but I wrote that already.
2) Many of these bands (and I'll drop a list on you instead of posting all these vids - even though I don't think they really appeal to you):
For Giants, Earthside, In the Silence, Wide Eyes, Monuments, Modern Day Babylon, Intervals, The Contortionist, Meridian, Animals As Leaders, Shokran - Supreme Truth, Their Dogs Were Astronauts, Vitalism, the Algorithm, Periphery, Sithu Aye , Zytecki, Widek and Pomegranate Tiger
...represent a new kind of style and genre. A kind of searching, getting lost and finding the rhythmic way again...
There's a lot of ongoing melodic rock up there with little to no lyrics and that kind of non-committal, studio enhanced, less spiked ambience is what I'm after, I guess.
So, a little selfish on my part.
And all that said, TOOL (and A Perfect Circle) still farking murder anything and everything that's been done in my lifetime, rock-wise.
In my honest opinion, of course.
