    Best way to die?

I may have missed it, but I didn't see "a bullet to the head". Seems to me to be quite quick and final.
    An interesting article below.
And do watch the Monty Python sketch. Tits a wobblin'!

"Last week, Dr. Richard Smith wrote on the British Medical Journal website that dying of cancer—of all things—was the best way to go. His reasoning?

You can say goodbye, reflect on your life, leave last messages, perhaps visit special places for a last time, listen to favorite pieces of music, read loved poems, and prepare, according to your beliefs, to meet your maker or enjoy eternal oblivion...."

The 'best' way is highly personal. The quickest way is probably to stand in front of a fast moving train.

Quick for the person who wants to die. Quite very inconsiderate for all the others. I have seen the occasional stop of train service because people use that method. Not to talk about traumatized train drivers.

Dying of cancer seems a horrible way to go.

A combination of ripe old age and morphine sounds good to me.

Not that I'll get a choice.

Dr. Smith has clearly never seen a person with terminal pancreatic cancer linger for years - I have. It ain't pretty, easy, or a good way to go. It's horrible.

Agree. For my dad it was metastasised melanoma/and/or prostrate cancer. Horrible, lingering death that I wish my mum hadn't gone through.
I think the Dr was making the comment about knowledge of impending death, whereby one can tie up loose ends, make peace, etc.
And that is what brought up the subject: If you are going to die, what way? Forewarned and able to give that last kiss, or sudden?

Not everyone celebrates Xmas, and people die on Xmas day too. And on the day their child was born, or on their birthday.

    Merry Xmas to you, too.

I think gassing yourself in a car with the engine running is quite popular in the UK, and relatively painless I think. The Japanese (when not ritually slitting their stomachs open), often kill themselves by lighting a BBQ in an enclosed space (so the same deadly gas as from car exhaust fumes).

I don't own a car right now, and not sure how to achieve the desired results with a step-through moped....

    Yeah, erm. No.

People I have known (friends, family) have died variously from cancer of the tits, prostate, liver and skin. It was fucking awful for all of them and those around them watching it happen.

    Screw cancer, it fucking sucks.

When I go I want it to be right after a "Hold my beer and watch this" moment. Hopefully I will leave some sort of decent sized crater from the explosion/impact.

Catalytic converters made that a rather time consuming process.

Try self-welding your lips to the exhaust pipe. With a hand grenade in your mouth. And a cat watching because they are evil furry little bastards and will do for you every time.

All residents of Switzerland, whether you are Swiss or not, can join another place called EXIT.

A lot of people i know are members and it doesn't cost much per year. Thinking of joining nex year. Also they have places all over the country so you don't have to travel to Dignitas in Zurich. They also help old people in Homes, which Dignitas don't.

Pretty grim subject. But is reality. I hope i just fall asleep and never wake up.

Yeah, of course. Nobody (sane) could argue that.
But it's going to happen, so what way? There's bad ways and there's worse ways.

Carbon monoxide is a painless and apparently peaceful way to go to sleep for good.

I knew three people who went that way.

You're obviously a glass half full kind of guy but I'm not convinced that having a good life is more important than a good death. But I'm sure that just says I'm glass half empty kind of guy. Sameo, sameo.

This was part of a post recently in the Cost of private nursing and homes.

    Suicide bag

A suicide bag, also known as an exit bag or hood,[1][2] is an euthanasia device consisting of a large plastic bag with a drawcord used to commit suicide through inert gas asphyxiation. It is usually used in conjunction with an inert gas like helium or nitrogen, which prevents the panic, sense of suffocation and struggling during unconsciousness (the hypercapnic alarm response) usually caused by the deprivation of oxygen in the presence of carbon dioxide.

Cancer is an awful way to go. But so is progressive dementia and a host of other things.
