^ you're morally corrupted, you do know that don't you???

Thai accounts relying on Thai companies are always running the risk of a fukup; so be Thai Netflix. &, I've heard from a few Americans here in Korea that their US Netflix accounts usually work, but can be a bit hit and miss now and again.

To my utter shock, Korean Netflix works great on my Mac mini and widescreen fantasticorgasmicwonderfullness. I was just catching up on my history by watching a documentary about an American president - I never knew that President Lincoln was a vampire hunter, and I look forward to having a serious conversation with Dr.Bobbie on the topic sometime soon.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

He wasn't a very good vampire hunter though, if he had been we wouldn't be watching the world fukked over by neocons and the alt-right.

Happy to have a serious conversation about netflix, their European servers are about 100 feet from my desk. Trivial fact, they're bright red and nowhere near as many as you'd think.

Yeah. Fair enough. Their London based servers, they have geographical resilience so this DC is not even the only place im the UK they're hosted. Still, mass amounts of storage, not a lot of servers. Openconnect appliances running freebsd.

I see, so you're the blind wise monkey and one not at all afraid of heights given how tall your soap box is. Since your return from the wilderness you've not been the same Bob or are you hearing voices in the background hum of the servers?

So what's the story with how they deal with account sharing?

If I switch back and forth between houses/condo using this chick's account (signing in with her email and netflix password) are they gonna lock it for suddenly and continuously going between 3 new computers?

Would feel a bit guilty if I get her account shut down.

T&Cs don’t allow but right now it’s almost impossible to catch people. A new AI based product by a company called Synamedia has been licensed by most streaming companies for deployment next year. That is supposed to be able to detect account sharing in real time and close those accounts automatically.

There are Netflix servers in Singapore by the way.

    Anyhow...

The era of sharing your Netflix account with your friends and family that live outside of your household might be coming to an end.

Software company Synamedia unveiled some new technology during CES in Las Vegas that allow streaming companies to use artificial intelligence to detect and flag users who are logged on the account in various locations. This means Netflix,
Amazon Prime and Huluusers are at risk for getting kicked off accounts that don’t belong to them.

The software analyzes locations based on who is logged in and where. If that wasn’t creepy enough, the software can also tell if a person is logged in at home, work or from a vacation spot in a hotel.

It was revealed by Synamedia at the event that almost 26 percent of millennials share their Netflix account with others. It might seem harmless, but it adds up to billions of dollars in losses for the streaming industry.

“Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore. Our new solution gives operators the ability to take action,” the CPO of Synamedia said. “Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium, shared service with a greater number of concurrent users. It’s a great way to keep honest people honest while benefiting from an incremental revenue stream.”

This isn’t the only major change Netflix has made in the past few months. In November, Netflix
was testing a mobile-only plan in Asia that was cheaper for users who only used the app on their phones. It’s unclear if it will arrive in the U.S., but that could be a low cost alternative for people who might have to pay for their own Netflix account soon.

It’s unclear when the new software will be put into place. Therefore, Netflix moochers should enjoy their free access while they can.

    If only

Quite a few people already get done for stealing content but tend to be on the more large-scale end of things, selling full systems to hotels and pubs. I'm on an internal group of media providers and we get a list every few months from the UK Federation against Copyright Theft of people who've been caught and convicted, it's usually for stealing Virgin, Sky, or BT, it's usually pub landlords, and the average fine is £30,000.

    Here's an example

    https://www.fact-uk.org.uk/pub-hande...al-sky-sports/

A Huddersfield licensee has pleaded guilty to six offences of dishonest reception of a television transmission by showing Sky Sports football matches to customers without a commercial agreement from Sky.

Casa Events Ltd, premises licensee of The Casa, Huddersfield, was fined £2,500 on each offence, plus ordered to pay a £200 victim surcharge and costs of £9,131.21 making a total of £24,331.21.

FACT brought the criminal prosecution on Wednesday 10th January 2018 at Kirklees Magistrates Court against Casa Events Ltd for showing Sky Sports to customers without having valid commercial viewing agreements in place. Sky Sports is only available to licensed premises in the UK via a commercial viewing agreement from Sky Business. Licensees that show Sky broadcasts without a commercial viewing agreement risk criminal prosecution

Netflix works great for the wife and I....400B/month with tons of shite to watch.

One of our favorites was the "Moving to the Continent" series about Brits wanting to move away from Britland to someplace nice.

Other end of the spectrum but I skimmed an interesting article the other day that had the central premise that the advent of Netflix and others actually put a dent in the small-fry type pirating such as people downloading things at home because they're affordable enough to negate it. Something I can understand actually because I recall few years back I'd look for something and try to download it legitimately through iTunes or whatever and 9/10 was foiled by a 'not available in your region' (an anti-pirating measure ironically enough). It was frustrating as hell but once they were opened up it was easy.

However the other point the article made is that the proliferation of different services will lead to an increase in piracy because if you're having to pay for Neflix for their 'must see shows' and the new Disney one and Amazon etc. etc. then it suddenly starts becoming quite expensive. Don't know that I agree with that but it would be interesting to see if there was some sort of correlation going on either way.
