Looking good...

First there was an opportunity......then there was a betrayal.

Twenty years have gone by.
Much has changed but just as much remains the same.
Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home.

They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).

Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.

Director Danny Boyle reunites the original cast: Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle

Thoiught it was gonna be based on Porno, but form the trailer it looks like a totally different screenplay. Should be good. But after seeing Long Way Round/Down, I will never bea ble to take McGregor seriously as an actor again.

Is this why 'our' begbie's busy the gadge?

I quite enjoyed those two series. I didn't see him as an actor, just a bloke doing some fun things.

Trainspotting 1 disturbed me a lot. I suppose my naivete at the time meant I just couldn't fully grasp what life was like in some places.

Rehashing the 'Choose...' thing isn't promising.

Suspect it was better left alone.

I haven't seen the long way documentaries yet. I quite liked Trainspotting, mainly because I had been to many a place like that, and worse!

The scene afterwards when he's kicking the wall in anger is hilarious

It's great to read that TS2 is coming out. They could've at least waited until I've seen the first one though.

Walsh showed in Porno how weak he was at that time at writing female characters. Also the whole storyline has dated badly. The much more recently written prequel Skagboys is much better.

Oh yeah, that's right I'm pretty sure I read that. I remember thinking it was better than Porno as well. I recall virtually nothing about the actual story whatsoever, so surely had a bit of a forgettable component to it? I will say I remember good bits of Porno, for better or worse.

Yeah, and honestly the trailer looks fine. Derivative, but why rock the boat anyway? As long as its well done it should at least be passable.

The fact that they got all the cast members back instead of trying some lame SLC Punk 2 thing without the main character or some nonsense at least shows they are making an effort.

To a certain degree, Trainspotting was the script for a period in my early post-teens/ pre-adult transitional period. Squalor, sex, drugs and deep uncertainty, mixed with romance and a vague longing to belong but to what I couldn't find.

And then I found life.

I've just downloaded the first one to re-watch this evening.

I think the film achieved cult notoriety because it has since kind of been thought of as encapsulating the spirit of the late eighties and early nineties. All that disenchanted, drug fuelled post punk nihilism.

I thought it was no better than OK personally. I agree that the novel was far better.

^Agree, classic was a bit much. Does have a great score though and worth it for that alone.

It's a good CD for sure.

A much better buy than a ticket for the film.

So yeah, getting the book, the CD and maybe some of your preferred poison was the way to go.

I remember my colleague's copy of the book got read by six or seven people in the space of a fortnight. Very difficult to stop reading. I'd forgotten though that, as you say, it was a collection of short stories.

That was a load of bollocks, just part of the gradual creep to normalise homo behaviour, put it by either, the author or screen writter, to pander to the audience -the self loathing politically correct middle class who love watching (from a safe distance) the squalor and chaos of the working class.

Also the reason for the anti English dig, when they are walking in the hills.

As if knife carrying Begbie who is more than a little prone to, and throughly enjoys violence, would not immediately behead the transvestite - totally out of character.

What's going to happen in TS 2, maybe Begbie has contracted full blown gayness ?

I've never read the book but If someone does an English language translation of it I will gladly review it.

i do like this passage though:

When I first saw the film in a cinema I thought it was brilliant, as it was something different, the scene I liked is the petty thieving, they go into an old people's home, walk into the communal lounge and lift the television while the old folks are watching it.

Now the problem I have today is that I now can recognise these herion addicts as they are so easy to spot, but in real life they are not amusing.
They are fckn annoying and a few have stolen from me over the years. They steal to feed their habit, and lie continuously.
Now a good idea for a new herion addict movie would be a fly on the wall reality TV show by,
Getting an old aircraft hanger, put them all inside, give them free abundant heroin and watch them die.
