Ex soldier arrested in Chiang Mai for
selling anti-tank weapons on Facebook
CHIANG MAI: A former soldier, who was selling anti-tank weapons on a Facebook page, has been arrested after police officers mounted a ‘sting’ operation.
Sixty-five year old Wirayuth Jansuwan, originally from Fang, and a former Thai Yai soldier, was caught in the San Phi Seua district of Chaing Mai.
His room was then searched and investigators discovered twenty-nine anti-tank mines and one rocket launcher, reports Daily News.
Sarayuth Sanguansokhai, the chief of the Region 5 police department, has personally questioned Wirayuth at the Mae Pang police station and he wants to know how the suspect came to possess such weapons.
Describing the matter as ‘one of national security,’ Sarayuth has ordered officers to widen the investigation and to identify anybody else involved in the case.
