    British guitarist killed in Pattaya

After three years in Pattaya Ross Mackay was planning to move back home just two-weeks later

A British musician living in Thailand who was due to return home for good died after crashing into a pick-up truck.

Ross Mackay had been living in the Thai city of Pattaya for the past three years, and was planning to return home to Swansea just two weeks after the collision took place in Sut Soi Arunothai in the Chonburi Province.

A talented musician, he was the youngest son of Lyn Mackay, who wrote acclaimed musical Swansea Girls, which had an extended run in the city five years ago, and its successful prequel Swansea Women.

Ross played guitar in the orchestras for both shows.

An inquest into the death of the 27-year-old was held at Swansea Civic Centre.

Assistant coroner Aled Wyn Gruffydd read reports from police in Thailand and a post mortem into the circumstances surrounding the death of the former pupil of Penllergaer Primary, Parkland Primary in Sketty, and Olchfa.

They revealed Mr Mackay had been riding a Yamaha moped down an alleyway when he hit a stationary truck.

Mr Gruffydd concluded: “The cause of death was a heart rupture due to colliding with a stationary object, namely a parked pick-up truck”.

Ross, who had last returned to Swansea in the March before his death to see friends get married, leaves a brother Scott and mother Lyn, plus his father in Thailand and extended family and friends worldwide.

Lyn Mackay said: “I still don’t really believe that Ross is dead. Ross loved life and lived it to the absolute fullest, so he leaves a huge gap in a lot of lives that will never be filled.

“My heart will never heal from losing him. I adored him. He was very easy to adore. He was just a lovely, lovely boy. My boy.”

Lyn has been writing a blog since Ross’ death called ‘A Day in the Life of Death’ which has had over forty thousand hits and was a finalist in the 2016 UK Blog Awards in London
