    On line check in

Travelling again soon, and just been requested to do an "on line check in".

No biggie - do it all the time now. Why was this one different - it was for a f*cking hotel. What the hell is that all about???

You book the room, pay for it, turn up and they give it to you - what the hell do they need an "on line check" in for, especially 3 days in advance????

That's why I like the Conrad. You turn up and they whisk you straight to your room.

No dicking about mixing with the riff raff in reception.

Ok. Will see. The confirmation said "your key will be ready". Suppose it might save a couple of minutes....

If you're truly concerned and angst with seemingly Machiavellian corporate chain bureaucracy - don't do business with 'em.

    Simple.

I have never understood on-line check-in, be it for air travel, hotels or anything else.

Presumably the idea of a check-in is to show that you have physically arrived.

Automate the procedure by all means but ensure physical rather than virtual presence...

It was more confusion as to why a hotel would feel the need for an online check in. Or the logic behind it.

As a matter or fact, just got my airline on line check in. Several hours after the hotel.

    Oh, and FOJ.

    Ah, I see.
Very well, potentially appropriate in a spirit of jovial banter.
Whilst maintaining an element of civilised conviviality at all time of course.

    Carry on.

They almost certainly asked for you to validate your credit card at the same time. It serves a little work at the hotel but its main purpose is for the hotel to be able to charge for services and goods used at the hotel. Soon people emptying the fridge and running away will be a thing of the past.
