Equally you may say the word "antisemite" was created to stifle debate or demonise detractors and those critical of some Jewish actions.
I don't think either word was created with an agenda to stifle debate or to demonise.
Both words are certainly used to stifle and/or demonise, but there are indeed antisemite bigots. As there are indeed Islamaphobe bigots. And the two words are apt in their cases.

See, that's why you get the label "Islamaphobe". You lump the entire religion together, when really what we should be attacking (both physically and in words) is radical Islam.
