Witness the Unfitness: Starting an exercise regime

Today I was slightly mortified that I was out of puff after hopping around after a first grader for less than one min- this is pathetic and something needs to be done about my lack of fitness. Mulling starting jogging- should do the trick in this heat, plus I have a massive moat to run around in the evening. I should also rejoin the local gym and be less of a princess about how rough around the edges it is.

Any advice on getting into shape? That teacher dropping dead at 33 has also been food for thought.

This seems wise, the hopping seems to have buggered my knee up. This has to change.

Walking, swimming, cycling...In that order. Start slowly.

Diet is also very important. Get as many raw foods into your diet as possible. ( so many lovely fresh fruits and veggies here in Thailand)
Occasional fasting is also healthy and helps to clear the spiritual paths which can amplify your being.

Once you get healthier there are numerous advanced health secrets which can be learned.
    Let the spirit move you,.

If the spirit moves ya fuck a duck for that matter.

Unhealthy lifestyles clog up the frontal cortex of the brain, as one get healthy these pathways clear up and a person can feel a spiritual exiliration, which is good and something to be sought after.

Our western lifestyles teach us very little about how to really live.

You don't need any more than that, except perhaps your diet if necessary, and cut down on alcohol if that's an issue.

    Enjoy.

I do 25 km out cycling most days. I'm 64. I know dogs are a problem to some but it can be sorted. Cycle the same route and the dogs will get used to you. I have a 1m cane stick with nails hammered through similar looking to a mace. Hit the fcukers once and they won't bother you again.
So my advice is cycling. On top of that you take a camera and take a few pics to show on TD.

And after, wouldn't want you crampin up If your not used to running. Take it from the fish swimming is a great low impact way to stay in shape. No joke. Ride a bike and watch what you eat. My setback is alcohol, just ask the TD members haha. Good luck with it and really what do you do with a first grader once you catch one. I've caught a few stragglers in schools and I just throw the runts back. fish.

Packing up smoking helps a lot, I can swim the 25m length of the pool under water
Last 2-3m are a bit of a struggle at times

Don't just get out and start running all of a sudden. Dropping dead isn't good for a long healthy life

Start off speed walking, your legs are already used to those strides so doing them a bit quicker isn't using any muscles you haven't

Don't be under the illusion that starting off joining a weights gym will mean instant fitness. It doesn't, full stop. Many muscle bound weights freaks would collapse after 20 metres of a run

If you're starting from nothing, expect about 3 months before you see any bodily changes.

Diet diet diet, cut or drastically reduce sugar, fats and snacks

Best of luck. If you suddenly stop posting, you'll either have died of a heart attack or posting under a new name, again.

start with yoga and breathing exercises; keeping your mind on what you're doing.
soon that will give you more energy.
mix it up with walking and running when you can after a week or 2.
you need minimum 9 months to get sorted.

if weather is hot out, soak hat and shirt in water

Couldn't have put it better myself....though all the other replies are excellent too.

I slightly disagree with one thing though...depending on how much exercise you do, you will FEEL results quite soon. When I went on an exercise kick, I felt a huge difference after five weeks and only worked out twice a week. I stood more upright, and my whole being felt great !

I'd like to especially emphasise this bit :

I have a colleague whose husband died of heart attack at 35. He wasn't obese, just of medium built. He didn't smoke but drank occasionally. He worked in the Middle East at that time, and was under a lot of stress, accdg to his colleagues. He was also hypertensive (beginning) and advised to take meds but he didn't. My colleague was pregnant at that time w/ their 2nd child. They brought his body in a coffin & he never got to see his 2nd child. Death comes to all, and it's tragic if it's young, good ppl.

Exercise is impt, even if it's mild. To the OP, good luck on your fitness efforts!

Start off walking and eating better. Cycling, swimming usually easy to fit in afterwards.

Believe it or not, it is not that hard to ease into (western) boxing training and is surprisingly easy on the joints unless you get into competing, and no need to get into getting beat up in sparring etc ... the kicking involved in Muay Thai messes a lot of people up though ... and who wants to be a Muay Thai wannabe anyway ... but just remember there is no way to out train a bad diet.

If it's been years since exercising or is your first session, the real test is the 10 days of agony, pain and muscle stiffness you'll get after. It's demoralising and gets your mind wondering if getting fit is really for you.

Ride that out and you'll start getting the endorphins flowing on the next few sessions. Definitely worth it

Wayne Kerr The Legend. Welcome back.

    Start walking/jogging/cycling in the evening.

Switch to a sensible, balanced diet. Don't do some crash diet, or starve yourself of one type of food group.

Buy a home gym for a spare room in your house. One the best things I've bought. Start a basic Push-Pull routine. I typically do 30-50 minutes after breakfast. Nothing too strenuous. Diet wise I keep a low sugar, low carb diet during the weekdays.

Helps keep me fit n trim.
