The Circus Container Diaries - Pre Production Thread

I have been putting this off for a very long time but I would like to do something with the 80 mins of footage I have from my time living in a container at the circus in Pattaya Park during the December of 2005.

I was unable to really film people much which was a pisser because it would have been great to film meetings and the Danny De Vito look-a-like boss in his caravan bigging up his failing company with his thumbs behing his braces pretending that everything was fine and dandy.

Because of this it does contain a lot of me and plenty of the shipping container, there's also lots of ladyboys and some drunken ramblings in Walking Street.

I need some help from some of you in that I could use a screen shot of the TV thread that covered this particular episode, but I think it was in a members only section so I can't do a search, can anyone help - Moog?

In the meantime - here's the trailer.

"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Sorry i'm not a member there any more and have no interest in rejoining.

However, we might be able to dramatise the Xmas day phone call. Perhaps filming a recreation of the sybaritic Christmas lunch, smash-cutting away to you holding a cellphone in a container, idly scratching a razor blade across your wrists.

Obviously if you do the camera-work for that, for the sake of accuracy and authenticity, you'd have to promise not to eat anything.

'The Moog's Christmas Sermon'. That's the one right?

Now what you want me to do with it?

Actor Michael Troughton is a dead ringer for The Moog.

I've only met The Moog a few times but each time I half expect Rik Mayall to appear in a pin striped suit and poke him in the eye.

^ The actor who played Piers Fletcher Dervish?

One of the journalists I work with made that same observation three months ago. When he was fired a few weeks later, I thought 'som nam na'.

So, you lived in that container?

I enjoyed the trailer. How long do you expect the final film to be?

Maybe you should do a film on "Horrible Places I've Lived": shipping container in Pattaya, Manila slum, Koh Samui, etc.

He should do a dramatisation, a semi-fictional plot based on his presence in various good locations.

His Xmas persecutors wearing Versace tuxedo'es slurping Krug. (Yet in real life Butterfly forgot the champers)

Strict non-fiction doesn't work as it would see him spending sufficient length of times online as to render any viewer comatose.

Eg, ....as demonstrated by even contemplating using a Thaivisa topic in a video piece ..... creative suicide .

He's done his forum crowd-pleasing thing with setting avatars to music, now its time to get back on track.

Well I did find the topic though I agree a stupid thing to add to the video.

Do you need a screen shot or not Scamp? Took me 10 mins to find that topic during the first cup of tea of the day.

Why doesn't Scampy make an updated version of Mondo Caines "Shocking Asia". He always seems to be in the right place.

Cheers Madd, green on the way.

Scampy you can't do contents, let the others do that one for you, focus on the editing. Most directors don't bother with contents, they are given to them by writers. They just choose the story, not write them.

Ask Jarvis to help you write a Video version of his beer bar thread, could be hilarious.

You have very little content material, therefore you are limited in your choice of editing and it shows.

    ^ True unfortunately.

Where is Jarvis these days, is he Cujo?

I had the chance to meet him in BKK but turned it down due to his Jeckyll and Hyde persona, his online rants were disturbing at times.

Still, from whet I remember that was a good thread.

The footage I saw of you in the big box is okay, but if thats all you have to go on its too thin to make the piece gel.

Why not do something about prostitution in Southeast Asia, or farangs who hit rock bottom in the region - you could cover Pattaya and Angeles City and deliberatelyl stay in horrid places like the container again. You could interview all sorts of washed-up people, plus you already have many contacts of this ilk.

Remember you're doing this as a creative project, so there's a sort of nobility in you yourself slumming it.

    Plus it might be sellable.

Its all rather like George Orwell's Down and out in paris and London'

Remember Scampy - if he chose- could be living a bourgeois life in his Isle of Wight house with a successful channel 4 film production company, a dazzling Monegasque wife called Francoise and standing for the local council as a lib democrat, instead of ........................this

It is yes, and it's big on the Lib Dems, I met David Steele on the I.O.W. when I was a nipper, he didn't convert me - I just wanted to thank him for the canapes and free tomato juice.

I have just finished importing all the footage from both cassettes and it will be difficult but definately possible to make this entertaining. It is mainly me in the container while the circus goes on outside but I have captured the boredom very well without making it boring, and the jaunts into Walking St and Xmas day are potentially very funny.

I have already done the opening title sequence, if I can make this worth viewing I will continue.
