French tourists hurt after bus avoids crash

A bus carrying about 30 tourists from France had an accident in Khao Yoi district in Phetchaburi while it was on the way to a hotel in Cha-am district

PHETCHABURI - About 20 French tourists were injured, one of them seriously, after their bus hit road barriers on Monday.

The bus of CRT Transport Co, with about 30 tourists from France and a guide from Bangkok to Cha-am district, tried to avoid a collision with a truck on Phetkasem road when it reached Khao Yoi district.

Chairat Srisilp, who was behind the wheel of the bus, said he was forced to swerve the vehicle after the 10-wheel lorry in another lane suddenly changed lanes.

Lorry driver Wichit Tibanteng said he tried to apply brakes after losing control of the vehicle due to slippery road conditions, according to the Matichon online.

The lorry carried fruits from Talat Tai in Pathum Thani to Narathiwat when the accident occurred.

Pol Lt Col Nimit Watsuwan, a duty officer of Khao Yoi police station, said about 20 tourists were injured, one of them seriously. After the incident, they were transported to Khao Yoi hospital and Pak Tho hospital in Ratchaburi for examination and treatment.

The seriously hurt passenger stayed at Khao Yoi hospital with one of her friends, he added.

The rest were allowed to continue their trip after treatment on a new bus from Bangkok sent to drive them to the Regent Chaam Beach Resort.

A male elephant, 8, is killed after being hit by an interprovincial bus in Hang Chat district, Lampang province, on late Friday night. The bus driver was badly hurt while other passengers were unhurt

LAMPANG - A male elephant was killed and a man badly hurt when an interprovincial bus rammed into it in Hang Chat district late Friday night. All passengers on board the bus were unhurt.

The Bangkok-Chiang Mai air-conditioned bus, carrying 25 passengers, were travelling on Lampang-Chiang Mai route when it hit the pachyderm walking on the road near Khun Tan hill in Hang Chat district at around 10pm on Friday, said police. The bus was operated by state-run Transport Co.

The force of the crash killed the elephant on the spot. Bus driver Narit Jittrong, 45, was badly injured and trapped in the driver’s seat.

Rescue workers took more than one hour to extricate the driver from the wreckage. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, while other passengers on board were not injured.

Pol Col Virot Saeng-iem, deputy investigation chief at Hang Chat police station, said an investigation found that the elephant was on the loose from its shelter and was walking on the road during the crash. The bus was going up Khun Tan hill at the time and the driver could not see the elephant walking in the darkness, causing the bus to crash into the animal.

The elephant,‘’Plai Udom’’, 8, was under the care of the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation, which was about to release the animal into Doi Phamuang wildlife sanctuary in Hang Chang before the crash. The pachyderm was in the stage of adjusting itself before being returned to the forest.

The jumbo earlier broke loose on Sept 8 this year and was found searching for food at a roadside forest near Khun Tan highway service unit.

That is so very very sad.
Looks like a fair stretch of straight road behind the crash scene, which means, no suprises, the driver was speeding and/or not paying attention.

Doesn't even need to be special. Just training FFS.
Plus drug and alcohol testing before during and after the trips.
I really believe that many of these cowboys have no idea how to drive a coach/truck HGV.
They get paid peanuts and just go for it.
Apart from the family owned buses are there organisations behind it all?
If so who are they and who are the responsible parties.
These are the ones the Gov should be looking for. IMO.

Before climbing onto the bus, have a look at the floor of the driver's cab.

Count the number of M150 bottles there.
