Driver under meth influence crashes bus into truck

Driver under meth influence crashes bus into truck

A tour bus, driven by a man under the influence of meth-amphetamine, rear-ended a truck in Angthong province on Sunday morning, injuring about 10 Myanmar passengers.

Pol Lieutenant Chatchai Chaiya said the victims had sustained slight injuries, but nothing serious. All had received first aid at the scene and were recovering from there injuries.

“The bus driver claimed he fell asleep behind the wheel. But after being grilled, he confessed to taking one meth-amphetamine tablet before hitting the road,” Chatchai said.

The accident took place on the Asian Highway, while the bus carrying 50 Myanmar passengers was on its way to Tak province where the passengers planned to celebrate the Songkran Festival.

“Our bus swerved right and left before crashing into a truck,” one of the bus passengers said.

The driver of the bus was clearly in no fit state to drive any vehicle. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for these types of incidents to arise here in Thailand. Police do their best to prevent such incidents, but the workload handed down to these drivers is often far to much for the body to handle. In these circumstances, the drivers are often loaded up with Red Bull, or M-150, just to stay awake

It amazes me that the carnage on thai roads never makes headlines in the uk, people are totally oblivious to the real horrors that happen here daily.

Fatal tour bus smash, driver runs away

PHETCHABURI — The sleeping second driver of a tour bus was killed and five passengers injured when it ran into the rear a trailer truck on Phetkasem highway in Khao Yoi district early on Monday.

Pol Lt Col Nimit Watsuwan, a duty officer at Khao Yoi police station, said the accident occurred about 5am on the Bangkok-bound side of Phetkasem highway in front of a PTT petrol station in tambon Huay Rong.

The driver of the truck, which was loaded with plywood, said he heard a loud noise from the left rearside of the vehicle while heading for Bangkok. He pulled over and stopped to take a look, and found out it had been rear-ended by a bus operated by Siam Doen Rot Co, which was travelling to Bangkok from Sungai Kolok in Narathiwat.

The front of the tour bus was badly damaged. One man, the second driver of the tour bus, was killed. Five passengers were injured, one of them seriously. The injured were admitted to Phra Chomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi.

As usual the bus driver fled the scene before emergency services arrived.

The police were looking for the fleeing driver. Passengers said the bus was swaying on the road before it ran into the truck in front of it, leading police to suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
