Facebook Gambler: Conned out of B19,000 and Then Reports Himself to the Police.
Just after midnight, on the morning of June 28, a thirty-two year old Songtaew Driver, Pawarit Chuensamran, reported an incident to the Pattaya Police.
He had been using an online gambling website on Facebook called SBOBET VIP SPORT, which seems to cater for baccarat and sports betting, when he decided to enter a quiz game which paid B2000 for each correct answer. Each jackpot question paid out another B15,000.
Chuensamran answered the first three questions correctly and then successfully tackled the jackpot question. Delighted with his results he contacted the Line ID given on the Facebook page to claim his B21,000 only to be told that he had to pay the entry fee of B19,000 before his winnings would be released to his bank account.
Naturally he did this right away and then made Line contact again to claim his winnings. That time he was informed ‘the system was down and he would have to wait.’ After he had called the Line ID number many more times he was surprised to find it had become unobtainable.
With that he began to feel a little suspicious and headed off to the police station to ask them to help recover his prize. Officers told him there have been many other complaints about this Facebook page and have asked for anymore of life’s winners to come forward and report the matter so they can gather evidence.
It does make you wonder how hard the questions could have been.
