I am liking these knobbly soled Salomon Speedcross trail runners

They look purposeful, rugged and dynamic and they leave nice tractor tread marks in the wet sand which I should have taken a photo of

2 adolescent girls were doing selfies at the waters edge shortly after this photo and one of them had her bikini shoulder straps rolled down and she was jumping and landing for the photo and her boobs with nipples out were bouncing out of her crumpled cups

My trail runners are the fitness equivalent of some poove driving around in an SUV/4WD Shu.

I do not actually need the offroad trail capability as I do all my running at the beach but it makes me feel more rugged and secure in my masculinity knowing that I have this capability should the terrain related needs ever demand it of me.

54 was ancient when I were a lad but old age is a like a tortoise to my high-visibility trail running hare.

Each time I think I am getting closer it seems to move a few steps further away.

@looper - two hike friends of mine swear by their Salomon shoes. Said that they have very good grip.

If ever you make it to Luzon, wear your Salomon shoes and I'll take you hiking. There will be rock scrambling, knife edges & "kiss the wall" parts.

I'd probably buy a pair right now for my hash runs, if they didn't look so susceptible to water.

I have trail hiking shoes that are goretex lined and waterproof

Trail runners don't tend to be waterproof in my experience

They are designed to shed water after letting it in so your feet do get wet but then the shoes do not hold water and dry fairly quickly

Some trail runners have thin nylon mesh uppers but the Salomon Speedcross has quite thick padded uppers, for protection I guess, but they are made of a kind of porous nylon padded mesh that drains instantly.

I only know this since I got a tiny spec of dirt on them after my beach run and had to spend half an hour scrubbing them back to spankiness under a tap.

Not that any of this technylonogical design wizardry has any bearing on my fair-weather beach running - but it is reassuring to know that I COULD go trail running up a rugged mountain in filthy weather IF the occasion demanded

I have had Cyrille's cruel clown-shoe jibes echoing in my head as I have ventured out in my Salomon Speedcross this past week

As I run along the beach I feel myself looking apprehensively at beach walkers and I am sure I see a faint smirk as they break eye contact and look down

Then I hear imaginary circus clown music ringing in my ears...

So I have had no option but to try and get something more serious looking

I think I might have cracked it with these Mazama 2 trail runners.

They are hard core. Rigid sole for rock scrambling and light as a feather with thin fast draining nylon uppers.

There was a very light drizzle coming and going at the beach today so I was able to put them to the hardcore stormwater rugged trail-running test.

They are designed to be wet. Most trail running in Europe and north America, bar some deserts, the shoes will get wet. They drain when you are out of the bogs. All shoes will get wet in the same conditions, Salomon trail shoes are better at handling this than most other types of trainers. In my limited experience.
