A couple of weeks ago in what was probably a brandy induced rush of blood to the head, I pre ordered the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Anyway, yesterday afternoon the beast arrived, along with a few freebies that went with pre ordering. From the reviews that I'd' read, I was expecting something of a monster in size terms, but not really. Is it big? Yes, but only a few millimetres larger than my S9+.

Anyway, I've got it partially set up, having transferred everything across from my old phone, and look forward to playing with the camera in the coming days/weeks. Photos are of it in the case that I ordered along with it.

Should take some amazing quality pictures and have a great screen to view them on too.

Nice. I nearly pre-ordered the s20. Decided to wait for this s8 to die. It does all I need really.

They have a new flip phone too I see.

Be nice to see your pics, they've always had great cameras. The zoom function on that should be great.

Like the way you stick all your apps in neat folders. That's my OCD too

I'm not a big fan of Samsung kit. Having said that, I just checked the specs and the s20 ultra 5g looks the goods. Enjoy!

I have been following along on the S20 Ultra. The Camera reviews have been mixed in that the zoom feature is outstanding but the 108mp pics are not any better then what can be taken on an S10+. So it will great to hear an unbiased review from you PAG.

I have the S9+ currently. I am to the point now that I will only upgrade every 3 or so models unless they introduce some really disruptive tech.

    Two points if I may:

    1) The S10+ already has a bloody good camera (as per Mendip's haute cuisine snaps).

    2) I agree with you that phones have become so good that you only need to upgrade every 2 or 3 years. I'm supposedly in super fast connectionland, and my Sony 3G speed, LG 4G-extra speed, and now Note10 5G speeds are just about identical (not in theory, but in the real world...). The camera on my Note 10 is as good as I'd want, as was the camera on the iPhone 8 I had before that. Pretty much all mid-tier to top-tier phones nowadays a're bloody good.

(Anyways, I'm getting bored of my Note 10, so when's the iPhone 12 coming out???)

&, to go back to PAG's purchase - there's no doubt that the S20 is a damn fine phone.

For quite a while I've been meaning to get a phone mount for the car, but never got around to it. However, last Friday I ordered one from Amazon US (wanted to be sure it would take the S20), and it arrived today. It wirelessly charges the phone, even though I've got a case with the cover folded back so the screen isn't covered. Two options for mount, either air vent or CD slot (my option, last thing you need is to block airflow in our climate).

Very convenient for stuff like Google maps.

Is the S20 living up to your expectations?

Indeed. I tend to use Google Maps these days rather than the usually out of date onboard satnav. Next previously unchartered trip will be to Hellfire Pass for next months ANAC Day, a long weekend in Kanchanaburi.

Yes, the S20 Ultra is fine though not stretching its capabilities yet. There are a couple of glitches though, which no doubt will be sorted at the next software update.

OK PAG....Mr. Wire OCD guy here. . Ya gotta do something with the wires hanging down. Take a nice set up like that and leave wires flopping????. Nice use of the CD slot. Who even uses CD's anymore? I really like the wireless charger. I have a HOCO set up. Very cool and as you bring the phone up to the charger, the holder automatically opens up to receive the phone then clamps back down.

But your point, I use Google Maps in my stereo head now. I use my phone as the internet source to the head. Pretty slick and I have a big screen with the map and all the voice commands.

Done much photography with the new S20?
