I've been hangin' in Cha Am and it's really been a refreshing surprise...I'm kinda on a bit of a fitness thing, so I won't drive anywhere...Always walking everywhere...And running the beach to expand the lungs...
At least 50 percent of the Thai people smile and say hello or good morning...They curb the barking of their dogs when I walk by, and many times people of all ages, both male and female, have actually stopped and offered me a ride...
One time walking home at night in a very light rain which was quite refreshing, this sweetheart on a motocai first drove by in the dark, but I just knew she was gonna turn around...
When she pulled up beside me, I just beamed at her put my hand on her shoulder and shook my head with a smile, "Thank you so much for stopping honey, but I live just up here," pointing 100 meters up the road...
I've only taken one ride thus far because the guy insisted and I just threw up my hands with a shit-eating grin and climbed on and he took me as far as his turn-off...
I know there's a lot of shite going down everywhere...Hua Hin is not far from here, where granny got her head kicked in by a young murderer...It's probably mainly in places like Bangers and Pattaya, as someone mentioned, not to forget many other cities in the world...And I've been on the fringe of a few in Bangkok at weird hours...
Are we simply getting older with our shifting perspectives, or is the world truly getting more desperate?...Is most of it just propaganda in the news where bad shit is promoted and sells very well?...
Anyway, this sojourn has been rejuvenating for the spirit, as well as the mind and body...
But that's just so far!...Heh...

if the hosts want a better class of visitor, then they have to re stock the shelves with something else than cheap whores, mile after mile of lowrent bars, contrived and tacky tourist attractions, a worforce that can offer some sincerity behind their eimpering smiles and do something to improve a polluted and ugly environment that has as much appeal as a garbage tip.
It's nothing to do with that. Twats have been here for decades. That said, I think there has been a change in attitude since I've been in Thailand but the change is simply that whites are no longer considered special or interesting to the same degree as in the past; I suspect that in the minds of the people who complain about this kind of thing, the change in the cracker's place in the pecking order is mis-understood as contempt or potential violence.Quote:

My place down south (Mabprachan) was broken into about 5 weeks ago. We let it out on Air BnB, so it's empty plenty times, given these times. Interesting thing is what was not stolen, and what was.
They didn't steal the TV's, or art on the walls, or furniture. Too big I suppose. They stole the copper wiring, the taps, and a pump. It cost 25K to get it right again, yet I doubt they made more than 2K on the deal. It was probably an inside job, because they had knowledge of the place. They broke in thru' the roof.

I was first in Pattaya over twenty years ago and was full of the world's detritus back then too.
I suppose the main difference is that their spread is now wider than the ankles of a Pattaya tart.
You wouldn't find them near Maprachan reservoir, for starters. Not in numbers anyway.
Of course how much the sleaze is of interest will often lessen over the years. Dragonfly, since he clearly has all the brainpower of his pseudonym, is merely seeing things through more jaundiced eyes after hanging with Pattaya's flotsam and jetsam for decades and doing stuff to it that is best not pondered.
What people dislike about the place is often just a mask for how they dislike the way they have spent their time. It's like waking up incredulous that you've shagged such a plug ugly bird, except multiplied by a power of about 20.
It's not Pattaya that drastically changed. It's you, or at least you wish you had.
I went to a party for Oil and Gas workers last Friday, There were 35 people there.
Only one had a job of the guys I knew well. Some had been out for 18 months.
I reckon it is them causing all the trouble, loads around the lake......
Certainly not in all cases, but in many, there appear to be three common denominators - Pattaya, two-wheel transport, and late at night.
I was first in Pattaya almost 40 years ago - I thought it was crap even then. Much like the sewer of Angeles City here. Unless you're there for whores and booze, which obviously folks like Loy Toy aren't, why would one base there?
I had a 1958 Triumph Tiger T-110 when I lived there, but I only drove it down on the Thai-Cambodian border, and rarely at night. Seems like an investment in a car could sort the getting knocked off the scooter issue.
And late night/early morning hours - there seems to be a general lack of situational awareness on the part of many of the victims. If you drive down an alley with a pack of soi dogs, it's a pretty fair bet you'll get attacked.

One real issue here in Pattaya, and as I have mentioned on many previous posts, is the number of males from up country who followed their girlfriends down to Pattaya are not receiving their daily wedge because the girls are not making money.
There is little or no chance for them to make a living themselves so they are resorting to crime just to survive.
10 years ago you rarely heard about a theft let alone a savage beating but sadly these things are happening every day here.
If I go out now my wife will drop me off, pick me up and I am rarely home after 8.00pm.
The Maprachan Lake has a lot of dark areas around it and rarely policed so takings are easy.
Once again.............BEWARE.
Just look at the Pattaya news sections on forums, it's a daily dose of crime and misery and despair.
