    What does one do..

What does one do, when a friend who was a member here dies.

Do to put the RIP thing under their nick?

Obviously, leaving the rest to their family to contact the mods. Or can i do it for them?

If you are in touch with the members family, you could offer to notify members on here?

I suppose admin will do that after they've been informed.

A recently active member, is it?

He was a friend, a longterm good friend from at least 15 years. Perhaps it is too soon to ask that question.

He only had a few posts here, but re reading them made me happy and sad.

    Not so recently active.

But when DD died, i asked him if he knew of TD and that it was sad that DD had died. He knew the name Dirty Dog - so perhaps he had been reading and not posted. Dunno.

Thank god, he didn't know who i was!! I love forum privacy.

Why not leave him in a perpetual forum state of 'stasis', as is DD?

    Just a thought.

So you don't actually know for sure that he was a member of TD?

The word 'again' is superfluous and misleading.

I don't know why you think you should leave it up to the mods.
And how would the family know his TD nic?

Indeed, even would they want to know.

Many of us post things that we might not want linked to us years later. An "indescretion", a rant at the wife or expression of dissapointment in the kids, a photo of a nubile lass who has somehow misplaced her underwear. Harmless an meaningless in a context of anonymity, but potentially deeply hurtful to surviving family if they are made aware of the identity behind the user name.

I would leave well enough alone, and not go anywhere near the family. If the poster had wanted the family to know his details on the board they would know already, and if they do not, there might be a good reason for that.

Hi Patsy..sorry to read about the passing of your friend.
As he was a friend you knew on TD, you could, for closure, say goodbye here, omitting his User name, use his first name.
Another suggestion, is a new thread, RIP Teakdoor friends, we have them for Sporting and other famous people.
I, to , lost a lifelong mate , who was also a TD member.
    Just my 5 cents worth..

    ^^

    Indeed,

No normal family members or people should have access to this Forum.

I would suspect that when posters die, the least of their worries is their Teakdoor legacy.

I was the first member to know Eric (Dirty Dog) had passed away based upon a call from his wife at about 7.00 am.

At that time, and during his final weeks Teakdoor was being invaded by Trolls and others trying to bring the forum down and I did not follow her instructions to let the other members know.

Instead I contacted the Mods and they decided that Thetyim should announce his passing by way of a thread posted by him not me.

I thought at the time it was the right thing to do and still think I did the right thing.

The other members who have passed away just have a RIP under their name as they fade to the back pages...It's a fine gesture...

But a few numpties think the RIP thing is too much...Tax just wants to be eaten by soi dogs, for example...

There has been a few. MrLick comes to mind, Blackgang.

If patsy is sure, she can Pm the mods, then up to them. leave the family out of it.
