^ That line of "you are not Japanese - they will never accept you"... annoys some folk, but I'm used to living on the fringe of society (being a weirdo) I'll fit right it...

I'm not searching for acceptance, just happiness for me and my family.

I'm not living in NZ... I'm living in Auckland (which is an unadulterated shit hole IMHO) other parts of NZ are just fine and dandy.

Lots of Kiwis living happily abroad, in fact a million Kiwis have fooked off to Auz... that speaks volumes...

My uncle has been living in Japan for over 25 years - he's more Kiwi than Fred Dagg & is doing very, very well.
I never felt any racism, just warmth a kindness. Have you ever been to Japan SA?

Fookin 'ell SA.. just wish us well, will ya? I'm nervous enough as it is 55..
I promise, I will let you guys know of my success (or failure) honestly without BS...

then opening its legs to mass immigration...

NZ, the glorious land of milk and honey, died around the same times as the myth of LOS (land of smiles) did... *snigger... funny to see stereotypes of Japan
being evil bloodthirsty racists persist though... are the poms still terrible snobs, tea drinking, ridiculously polite, stiff upper lip, or have things changed a tad, since 1860?

Talk with your uncle who lives in Japan?
Other than that a short trip for you and wife may be in order?

Thanks JL... been there 3 times, just waiting on my Visa, then we are off... no more fluffing around...

My uncle is a mystery, my dad and his brother had a big falling out, so dad is reluctant to give me his contact details. Pity as he would be a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Still young. You will fail or succeed but worse is doing nothing and regreting it. What if, if only, I wonder what would have happened. You will never, never know, and it will haunt you for the rest of your days

As Nike says "Just Do It"! Best of luck and success.

Dick, just go and keep a positive attitude. You would be kicking yourself if you did not at least try.

My heart is just not here, you couldn't pay me enough to live in Auckland.

We live in uncertain times, it's hard to predict the future of any country with any assurance with so many variables.

So I'd rather roll the dice, and live in a country that I feel most happy in, than live in a country that has lost its burgeoning Kiwi culture, sold its guts to the highest bidders, and pumped what's left, full to the brink of collapse with economic immigrants.

Japan has always been a homogeneous country and they are rather skeptical about taking many foreigners in. Which is understandable considering how unique and different the Japanese culture is. The Multiculturalism which Kiwis have been forced to embrace has been too unrestricted, which has caused so many problems *especially in Auckland.

Under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan is aiming to further increase the annual number of incoming foreign tourists to 40 million by 2020 and 60 million by 2030.

Faced with the deluge in tourists and future visitors, the government has begun to loosen restrictions on minpaku accommodations *airbnb in private houses and apartments.

This deregulation, will affect/benefit us directly, as it's in line with our business model. I also personally think Trump will surprise us and will improve the US economy which will benefit trade with Japan.

Sorry, a clusterfuck of thoughts there.. off to see nan... will edit that mess when I get home.
So how are you sustaining yourself in Japan? It's not always the easiest place to operate, even if you're a honky. Nihongo wa dekimasu ka mo?
I've met Thais with surprisingly fluent Japanese even out in Isan, who seemed to be seasonal workers in car factories in Japan. My Mrs sometimes works with Japs in her technical area, but in Europe more than Asia. Seems like an interesting alternative to traditional emigration destinations like Oz and Canada etc...

It's interesting hearing you talk about Kiwiland as you do, most people seem to regard it as one of the last safe pleasant bastions in the world to hide from the apocalyptic pressures swirling around... I know an ETO who's taken to living there, right at the bottom near Invercargill, because he can get a house for a year's salary; but I guess the cost of living is such that it's hard to get out. I know Kiwi contractors who do fantastically well in Europe and the US, but could never have a hope of that kind of success had they stayed in Kiwiland. I imagine it's being infested with Chinese and east Europeans, and delightful folks from the Hamito-Semitic-speaking parts of the world.

Dickie, you mentioned NZ has been opened up to mass immigration.

    2016 64,000 that's a population density of 15 people to every Kilometre.

Population, of NZ 4,720,000. that's heaven in my eyes.

Interesting to read Indians and Chinese are now taking over from the Brits on immigration, no doubt where there is Chinese and Indian there is investment coming.

71,300 per year (latest figures)... population density means jack shit, when they all pile into Dorkland...

1 million extra peeps in 10 or so years, since I was in tai-lan... 1/4 more people.. seems like mass immigration to me (per capita)...

Government refuses to stop NZ’s mass immigration disaster

"The government will not change its immigration policy to try to curb the housing crisis, Prime Minister John Key says.

Reserve Bank deputy governor Grant Spencer has said there has been an inflow of 160,000 people in the past three years, and that cannot be ignored.

He said the government’s policy needed to be reviewed to see whether the right people with the right skills were coming into the country".

Dickie NZ only reached 4 million in 2003, it's only at 4.7 now, and true the numbers have increased over the last 3 yrs though such small numbers considering.

Interesting to see the Brits numbers have dropped dramatically.

^ Like I said, most 60+ % gravitate to Auckland (3 to 4 per hour) hence a zillion problems facing this "super city"...

Just google problems facing Auckland (happy reading)...

Semi-rural... on the edge of a medium sized city (Fuku

Oka)... heh with a name like that - it has to be destiny folks...

We've got less than 100 days to go and my wife is still clinging to the hope I'll change my mind and accept the 2 year extension. Fat chance.

Don't have anything bad to say about Japn it's just at this time I want to be in the PACNORWEST.

Yeah, I could sense you were indifferent about Japan... different strokes for different folks I guess... I think it was custom built for me.

I love the calm energy, even surrounded by many people, there is no sense of chaos.. they are not loud, or obnoxious, I love the beauty of fine details, the small touches, efficiency, etc..

Can't wait! maybe I was a great Samurai warrior in a past life-time.. hmm

Wish you well for you and your family, wherever the road may lead you.

Buying Property in Japan, Foreclosed Japan Real Estate, Philippine Real Estate, NZ property

How can the Japan Foreclosed Property report help people maximize the value from their property acquisition?

It provides strategies for finding the best bargains.

It provides resources for investors who are not Japanese speakers. We offer a 'Bit Sikkou' search tool so you find what you are looking for.

It provides the real experiences of a foreigner who bought several properties in Japan - after extensive research and market testing.

The report will help you understand the dynamics of the local economy and the property market.

Nope. I think you can have a great life in Japan.

The only advice I could give you is to remember once you get permanent residence due to your marriage to a JN you're eligible for various kinds of decent paying jobs on the US military bases ... MLC and IHA is what would be open to you:

    https://webcache.googleusercontent.c...&ct=clnk&gl=jp

There are many different nationalities working on the bases as MLC and IHA hires who are married to Japanese nationals.

Being a native English speaker is a big plus to get these types of jobs.
