We live in uncertain times, it's hard to predict the future of any country with any assurance with so many variables.

So I'd rather roll the dice, and live in a country that I feel most happy in, than live in a country that has lost its burgeoning Kiwi culture, sold its guts to the highest bidders, and pumped what's left, full to the brink of collapse with economic immigrants.

Japan has always been a homogeneous country and they are rather skeptical about taking many foreigners in. Which is understandable considering how unique and different the Japanese culture is. The Multiculturalism which Kiwis have been forced to embrace has been too unrestricted, which has caused so many problems *especially in Auckland.

Under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan is aiming to further increase the annual number of incoming foreign tourists to 40 million by 2020 and 60 million by 2030.

Faced with the deluge in tourists and future visitors, the government has begun to loosen restrictions on minpaku accommodations *airbnb in private houses and apartments.

This deregulation, will affect/benefit us directly, as it's in line with our business model. I also personally think Trump will surprise us and will improve the US economy which will benefit trade with Japan.

So how are you sustaining yourself in Japan? It's not always the easiest place to operate, even if you're a honky. Nihongo wa dekimasu ka mo?
I've met Thais with surprisingly fluent Japanese even out in Isan, who seemed to be seasonal workers in car factories in Japan. My Mrs sometimes works with Japs in her technical area, but in Europe more than Asia. Seems like an interesting alternative to traditional emigration destinations like Oz and Canada etc...

It's interesting hearing you talk about Kiwiland as you do, most people seem to regard it as one of the last safe pleasant bastions in the world to hide from the apocalyptic pressures swirling around... I know an ETO who's taken to living there, right at the bottom near Invercargill, because he can get a house for a year's salary; but I guess the cost of living is such that it's hard to get out. I know Kiwi contractors who do fantastically well in Europe and the US, but could never have a hope of that kind of success had they stayed in Kiwiland. I imagine it's being infested with Chinese and east Europeans, and delightful folks from the Hamito-Semitic-speaking parts of the world.

2016 64,000 that's a population density of 15 people to every Kilometre.

Population, of NZ 4,720,000. that's heaven in my eyes.

Interesting to read Indians and Chinese are now taking over from the Brits on immigration, no doubt where there is Chinese and Indian there is investment coming.

Dickie NZ only reached 4 million in 2003, it's only at 4.7 now, and true the numbers have increased over the last 3 yrs though such small numbers considering.

Interesting to see the Brits numbers have dropped dramatically.

Wait until to live in Japan then you'll know what numbers are.

We've got less than 100 days to go and my wife is still clinging to the hope I'll change my mind and accept the 2 year extension. Fat chance.

Yeah, I could sense you were indifferent about Japan... different strokes for different folks I guess... I think it was custom built for me.

I love the calm energy, even surrounded by many people, there is no sense of chaos.. they are not loud, or obnoxious, I love the beauty of fine details, the small touches, efficiency, etc..

Can't wait! maybe I was a great Samurai warrior in a past life-time.. hmm
