Let the Children decide, no. The adults of the family must take responsibility with regards to family well being. Any problems and the adults point at the children and it's their fault, it was their decision, NO. Dad and Mum decide the pros and cons.

This thread has gone somewhat off-track and away from the most important issue: free accommodation for me in Shanghai.

"And then there is possibility that", there might be improvements in the following social changes, because of the move.

I agree, and Neo is off to the ME on an expat assignment, we need to know how many rich well educated Arabs are leaving the area to settle somewhere else in the world, it's highly relevant....

You have a gift for understatement.

It's the issue, the only issue. How can an expat make an informed decision without knowing where a small section of non-expat immigrants may prefer.

Well, I don't really think it accounts for all that many Londoners.

Ah, I see, your a glass half full optimist, you will get on well in Shag-Hi, I'm actually on about the "other" game on Saturday, Pohm's v Paddies - but I wish the Welsh all the best, will make for a good game at Twickers if we both win.

Got offered the job in Shanghai but declined it.

Salary was a lot less than I was on here which is only to be expected in the current climate, but they seemed to expect everything to come from that salary, flights, health insurance, accommodation.... just wasn't worth it considering other constraints / options.

Shame, the job was one I really would love to have taken on.

No one I knew who had worked there wanted to go back and no one I knew who visited there wanted to move there.

Not the biggest reason because I believe in finding out for myself but added into the many other downsides it certainly was another reason to say no.

I'm 7 months in, and SH is certainly a lot better than a lot of other shitehole cities in Asia, particularly Bangkok (Manila too).

Haven't saved much, as I've been on a 7 month spending spree.

Anything I want can be attained. Particularly skirt, seeing a couple of birds at the mo, including a married mother (not 100% comfortable with that, but eh).

Don't much like working with an all-Chinese crew, and that might push me to look for another job. But they pay on time and let me be.

Also, there is a severe lack of greenery in this massive city.

Would love a gig by the ocean. Fuck the ME. Fuck Europe. Fuck the UK. Fuck South Africa (and Africa). Pity good salaries are hard to come by in places like the Philippines.

Might stick around in SH for another year or two - life is (too) easy here.
