I think some are getting mixed up with the checkers inside the store and the guys that work outside collecting the trollies.

^ Nope. Same guy who checks my trolley and stamps my receipt. Amazing what a friendly smile and a little small talk can do.

Entirely possible that a shifty looking farang, exhibiting the kind of behaviour described in the OP would attract more than the normal cursory inspection of goods.

Macro do have camera security and one of the oldest ploys was to switch price labels to a cheaper one. They got round this con in the west by having price labels that couldn't peel off as a whole sheet. Thailand doesn't have this yet as far as I am aware. Maybe, just maybe, Yaso's missus was caught on camera switching labels? I can't see it any other way.

I think it's fairly safe to say that the individual checking of items is not the norm so why did they do that. ?

    Maybe a random check , I dunno.

Huge amount of imported fish for piss all money.

Pangasius Fish must be what dapper means.

Mostly seems to come from Vietnam, frozen. It's cheap pretty much everywhere...and rather tasteless imo.

it is a effective way of not only checking their own staff
Interesting experience at a Robinsons a few weeks ago - bought some sandals at 30% discount, and then found 20% discount on the receipt. This was queried until I took the guy over to the shelf and pointed out the 30% discount sign, and asked why the piece of paper he had given me had "Dummy Receipt" printed at the top, and I'd better talk to a manager.
Oh dear, oh dear, big mistake, press wrong button ...

    ^

The other week at Tops I bought a heavily discounted product.

After arriving home I had noticed the check out chick had charged me double on the Item.

Off I go back with the receipt, show the manager and money back no probs whatsoever.

Must keep your receipt, same as in the West.

It's quite easy for an item to be scanned twice or staff to make mistakes.

It is, and I love it battered or boiled. In the West it's passed off as 'John Dorey'. https://teakdoor.com/the-kitchen/1134...dory-scam.html

My son comes out and tells me Mama is going ballistic inside, intrigued I head back and there she is giving it to them.

Seems the security have found goods not charged correctly, pork loin and pork ribs.

Wifey is blowing off, I've just paid for goods and now you're making me look like a thief, she is asking other customers around her if they thought it was right that these people are shaming you after their own employees can't do their jobs.

We'd just spent around 9,000 baht, and she giving it large telling them ok give me all money back and you won't see us here again.

Must say I was really proud of her.

my son, on the other hand, ran a mile.

I wouldn't feed it to the pets. Have you seen the conditions they're farmed in, with chemical run-off from corn fields etc, plus huge amounts of medicinal chemicals added to the water because conditions are so putrid that the fish are liable to disease.
