    going nowhere

i haven't left the country since 2003 and in the 5 and a bit years since my first daughter was born, the farthest i have traveled from my home is the occasional visit to chiangrai to visit my emancipated friend Jandajoy.....

probably about 300 km or so

other than that i have rarely strayed from my 20 km commute to work and back
i don't really like traveling very much but i'm going to buy a bike today and might start to wander farther afield

is anybody else a relative hermit?

I go for the occasional bike ride to relieve the boredom.
Yesterday the Samoen Loop on my own,
Today, to Phayao for lunch, with a mate,
Tomorrow, might do the Samoen Loop again, but this time with a bunch of people that I haven't met yet. (Chiang Mai Bike Riders group on Facebook).

I don't normally get out and about that much, but I've been a bit bored lately.
Haven't been back to Aust. for about 20 months.

P.S. If you want to go for a ride with me after you get your bike just pm me.

I hadn't left for about 9 years. At the airport the "entry" slip or whatever I had wouldn't work in the computer because the number was out of date and the immigration woman huffed and then began to count the years on her fingers.

I can't relate at all.. I talked to my mom last night and she said she can't keep track of where I am. lol.

I just got back from Thailand and now going to Shanghai for a weekend soon and then Korea in February.

CMN.. I'm so happy that you bought a bicycle. Try to get out for long rides and go a different direction everyday or a new route. You get to notice new things everyday and it changes/refreshes your mind. Mwah!

Yes. I have left the country in the last decade, but only to neighbouring countries.
My local regular drinking buddy died, and our crazy mate left Thailand for the Filipines (a good thing for Thailand). The only other local farang is now a cripple.
I do not consider myself a hermit, but I only even see another white face on average once or twice a week. Nothing against fellow white people, but that suits me fine.
I guess I'm a village boy now, living in a smaller world. There is a lot to recommend it, although I'd say you should wait until autumn years before doing it.

Just finished a 3900 mile loop and never left the country. Nice to get away evey now and then. We were in a car ,of course, but a bike trip sounds great. Mine are in moth balls as the weather now is crap in my neck of the woods. Good luck to you, a good way to keep fit. Enjoy, I'm gelous.

I go home for a few weeks every year, each time the period increases. I'm up to 7 weeks at the moment. I find I don't miss Thailand at all, but then I doubt I would miss N Korea or China if I were living there either.

    I'm a traveling fool.
Planning an epic Thailand 77 province cycling tour. It will take about 6 months to a year.

I'll post the travelog here if Willy goes away.

It fits me. I haven't been back to the west in almost 11 years and have been out of Thailand only a couple of times during the period. The longest being a 3 day break in Singapore.

Bangkok i have been to once in the last 12 months for a couple of nights and most holidays i lock the door behind me on arriving back from work only to open it once the holiday is over and work calls.

I had enough traveling in my previous existence to last me a fe lifetimes and am very happy with my present lot

Do you have a two door blue pick up mate?

I can't imagine not leaving the country since 2003. I am currently in Thailand - the previous time was 14 months ago - the longest break between International Travel I have ever done.

Yes, pretty much a hermit. Couldn't be arsed to get out and meet anybody when I lived in Thailand and haven't been back since I left in March 2010.

Not yet, but will probably mix it up some using the train system. That's the beauty of the bicycle.

    Very nice little Ninja BTW.

    It should be green though!

Blimey that's not far we live in Bangkok and probably travel that far to get to Asoke from our house. If we are in Gert's mums village always riding around on a motorbike furthest bike ride from Mae Lan was too Namtok Sai Khao National Park.We like traveling and are quite happy to jump on a plane a take a long haul flight anywhere.
But will admit it is nice to get back to our home in Bangkok after a holiday else where.

Its time the unavailing of Nooners.
