Ok, back to the trip . . .

Find myself in Paihia - lovely beachside accommodation . . . and hear about this tsunami off the Chilean coast . . . and that it will reach this coast by tonight.

    Paihia

Bugger it, I've paid for the night, the rental is insured and I have baked beans in a can and three bottles of Gisbourne wine.

    I'm staying.

Should this be my last post before being swept away to regions unknown:

    BM, you're a wanker.

    Peace out

NZ's so far away by the time they arrive it's barely noticeable.
    Particularly if it's low tide.

You'd be wrong - the mood is of complete confidence. The lass who check us in today here in Orewa said that she feels sorry for her boyfriend because he is English as they have zero chance.

Everywhere you look there is AB stuff - on farms far away off the beaten track, the silver fern flying everywhere . . . even shops are full . . . This is one time I am glad I have a seppo accent.

These were taken in the space of ten minutes in two shops:

(I did receive a few strange looks taking a photo of close-to naked male mannequins)

Very upbeat and full of confidence, Ant . . . like nothing could go wrong. (Gulp)

It all comes to an end

    25 days . . .

    25 days of uNZud - can't say I disliked a single day.

It's been great being surrounded by genuinely nice, friendly and helpful people again - living in Asia too long, perhaps.

Japan comes close, but here's the language barrier on my part.

Found a house, bought it - happiness - this gives a hint as to where

Schools found, accepted and enrolled - no more international schools with clueless teachers and snotty parents.

Beautiful countryside, coast, food - simply everything except the speeding ticket I got yesterday in Auckland on Quay Street, doing 54km/h in a 50 zone . . . seriously???

Seafood cheap and plentiful - puts the average chippie in Oz and elsewhere to shame

Roads were ok, drivers slow but after erratic Asia that is a good thing.

Still - looking forward to being here.

    Thanks, Kiwi-Land!
