Precisely why we're moving . . . we've had our fun, our kids have had amazing experiences, now it's time to settle down a bit and place priority on their education and basis for their future.Originally Posted by Norton

Kiwi-land is lovely and the people are amazingly friendly . . . as I mentioned, even the immigrants have adopted the same attitude.
Thanks, Norton!

Yes, yes, yes - Chas! My daily routine isn't touristy 'n shit, though, its all boring 'n shit.
More piccies to follow when I go to Rotorua, Thames, Hawkes Bay . . . biznis 'n shit comes first . . . but seeing as you asked so nicely

Ok, so I have a question for the Kiwis here . . .
The first few days - beautiful, cold, but sunny and glorious
These last few days - rain. Non-stop. Not heavy, like in Asia, rather a non-stop drizzel . . . with this morning adding wind. Yuck
Oh, did I mention cold?
Seriously PH, I am interested in seeing the kind of property available in different places and I thought you were running the rule over places your Mrs had picked out.
I was on my way to NZ when I got way layed by Thailand. That's why my av says 'in transit'. I still have hopes, one day .............

Ok, I'm off to see a house on four acres of bushland ca 90 km out of Auckland as a week-ender. Price is roughly 450k.
It looks quite beautiful, so I'll take a few pics and post them. It's a miserable day today, raining and very windy . . . and cold.
Seen some very nice houses, made an offer on one - 10% below the asking price, see how that goes - if they don't like it then we negotiate.
Solar heated pool . . .
Most houses on the market here are via auction - this one is by nego.
This was my wife's number one choice as well.
A few others were nice but in newer areas - not really my kettle of fish. I like old trees (yes, I like trees a lot), established neighbourhoods etc...
Anyway, I'll fill you in with a few more details, best not to get too personal with crazies like BM, smeg, pompey'sbloke, piwanoi etc... around.
Bloody windy!

That cold rain and drizzle gets to you after a few months.
WTF is that supposed to mean. I've never been normal.Originally Posted by panama hat

Ok, jocularity aside.
Yes, the weather is certainly not what we are used to . . . but when I get out of the shower and towel-dry myself . . . I don't sweat immediately - much appreciated.
Walking around - when it isn't pissing down - is also very pleasant - no sweat - literally
Food is very good and cheap. (If we take into account the purchasing power of the average Kiwi - food is cheap)
Petrol - same.
Saw an accident this morning. Immediately three other cars stopped, checked on the driver and donned their HiViz jackets and warned traffic to slow down.
Wet and windy . . . nice.
Spent an hour at Vodaphone because my sim wasn't working well - kept dropping the line. Throughout the whole thing they were so very pleasant and fixed the problem.
Have an hour to kill before the viewing, had a coffee and went to the local library. Yes. A library.
I know it's not all rosy - he says looking out the window - but it certainly feels more like home than SEAsia
As a transplant for 9/10ths of my life this feels right

First day of spring in NZ today I believe.
One thing that you'll need to watch is the Summer sun. That shit be harsh! For whatever reason it burns you a lot faster and because winter can be a bit shit it kinda sneaks up on you. In my own experience I get sunburn a lot faster in NZ even compared to places like Thailand and Aust.
Oh, and be prepared for the traffic jams and general disruption from the parades when I come back at Xmas.
Umm, yea . . . so it seems. NotOriginally Posted by AntRobertson

So, arrived in Rotorua - the cops searched every car but I assured them Ant wouldn't be trying to sneak in until December.
It was raining all the way . . . beautiful road down, though, and then came the fog - still nice.
You can smell the place before you see it . . .
Bloody hell . . . with just you in mind:Originally Posted by chassamui

Speaking of Rustafrugginfrugginrusya, here's one for the cur's cur -
Yes, don't flatter yourself that I thought of you . . .I think of you like people think of herpes . . .
Anyway, on to more pleasant things - had a great fush 'n chups . . . Hoki fillet - very nice tasting fish indeed. Umm, ...fush undiid
Had a sulfur bath - bloody hot and surprisingly slimy - nothing like Japanese onsen at all . . . but makes the skin all lovely and smooth and silky
Ahem . . .
More Chinese here than you can shake a stick at
Bloody foreigners, eh pompey'sbloke - can't stand foreigners, especially when they're not from here, eh chav-boy!
Tomorrow - thanks to the Robertson curse - it will rain
No problem with foreigners, just rag heads like you, Pissedn'sHat. NZ immi caught up with you yet regarding your affiliation with Rotherham paki paedo gang rapists?Originally Posted by panama hat

Ok, on the way it was simply sublime - aside from a few road closures due to flooding - - - not to worry, have 4WD, will traverse, and I did.
True, though, a distinct lack of trees
The week-ender I couldn't afford :-(
Lots of ferns everywhere . . . hmm, they should make something of that

More pics less blabbing please. That's for you PH. Slack can carry on. Try taking some in daylight. They do have that in NZ I take it?
Get to a place Called Ohakune in the middle of the North Island and drive up Mt. Ruapehu then go for a bushwalk at the base of the mountain.
That is the richest smelling air on the planet. Those forests smell sublime.
. . . and Rotorua has the worst smelling air . . . blerk!Originally Posted by Cujo

Breathtaking, really . . .
Crystal clear water . . . beautiful
There's trusty Blandy
Blandy because it's white . . . but a very good car to drive around in
A Torana? NZ-Bogan!
Pretty place, but I must admit I have never seen more signs of rules, regulations, safety, etc etc anywhere . . .
