Precisely why we're moving . . . we've had our fun, our kids have had amazing experiences, now it's time to settle down a bit and place priority on their education and basis for their future.

On one hand I hope they mirror our life-choices when they are adults, on the other hand I hope they don't. . . . for the purely selfish reason that they'll be away from us.

Kiwi-land is lovely and the people are amazingly friendly . . . as I mentioned, even the immigrants have adopted the same attitude.

Ok, so I have a question for the Kiwis here . . .

The first few days - beautiful, cold, but sunny and glorious

These last few days - rain. Non-stop. Not heavy, like in Asia, rather a non-stop drizzel . . . with this morning adding wind. Yuck

Oh, did I mention cold?

Seriously PH, I am interested in seeing the kind of property available in different places and I thought you were running the rule over places your Mrs had picked out.

I was on my way to NZ when I got way layed by Thailand. That's why my av says 'in transit'. I still have hopes, one day .............

Ok, I'm off to see a house on four acres of bushland ca 90 km out of Auckland as a week-ender. Price is roughly 450k.

It looks quite beautiful, so I'll take a few pics and post them. It's a miserable day today, raining and very windy . . . and cold.

Seen some very nice houses, made an offer on one - 10% below the asking price, see how that goes - if they don't like it then we negotiate.
Solar heated pool . . .

Most houses on the market here are via auction - this one is by nego.
This was my wife's number one choice as well.

A few others were nice but in newer areas - not really my kettle of fish. I like old trees (yes, I like trees a lot), established neighbourhoods etc...

Anyway, I'll fill you in with a few more details, best not to get too personal with crazies like BM, smeg, pompey'sbloke, piwanoi etc... around.

Ok, jocularity aside.

Yes, the weather is certainly not what we are used to . . . but when I get out of the shower and towel-dry myself . . . I don't sweat immediately - much appreciated.

Walking around - when it isn't pissing down - is also very pleasant - no sweat - literally

Food is very good and cheap. (If we take into account the purchasing power of the average Kiwi - food is cheap)

Petrol - same.

Saw an accident this morning. Immediately three other cars stopped, checked on the driver and donned their HiViz jackets and warned traffic to slow down.
Wet and windy . . . nice.

Spent an hour at Vodaphone because my sim wasn't working well - kept dropping the line. Throughout the whole thing they were so very pleasant and fixed the problem.

Have an hour to kill before the viewing, had a coffee and went to the local library. Yes. A library.

I know it's not all rosy - he says looking out the window - but it certainly feels more like home than SEAsia

As a transplant for 9/10ths of my life this feels right

First day of spring in NZ today I believe.

One thing that you'll need to watch is the Summer sun. That shit be harsh! For whatever reason it burns you a lot faster and because winter can be a bit shit it kinda sneaks up on you. In my own experience I get sunburn a lot faster in NZ even compared to places like Thailand and Aust.

Oh, and be prepared for the traffic jams and general disruption from the parades when I come back at Xmas.

Yea, they even named a street - Robertson Street - after him in Rotorua, kind of like naming a street Syphilis Alley to remind everyone of this heinous disease . . . and syphilis as well.

So, arrived in Rotorua - the cops searched every car but I assured them Ant wouldn't be trying to sneak in until December.

It was raining all the way . . . beautiful road down, though, and then came the fog - still nice.
You can smell the place before you see it . . .

Had a sulfur bath - bloody hot and surprisingly slimy - nothing like Japanese onsen at all . . . but makes the skin all lovely and smooth and silky

Get to a place Called Ohakune in the middle of the North Island and drive up Mt. Ruapehu then go for a bushwalk at the base of the mountain.
