Instead of signs saying what you can't do, they need to say what you can do.
Thankfully you can still do that in the more regional areas of Australia (like Latindancer mentioned) but your correct in not being able to do that basically anywhere south of Cairns on the East coast all the way around to Adelaide.

True NZ is in the grip of a pro business lobby, the camp ground owners are one aspect of it whose fabricated horror stories of road side dumpers cause the working man and family to stay home during holiday time because he can't afford inflated holiday camp prices when otherwise he and the kids would be freedom camping. The NZ experience is only for the rich. The lower-waged have been priced out of it.

It of course would be unacceptable to suggest that the Austrialians of NW European stock tend to not need telling what is fair dinkum as much as the new incomers from the less civilised parts of the world.

WHAT? Are you trying to say that the carefree Aussie lifestyle is disappearing because we are not as religious as we used to be????? WTF?

    I don't mind Adelaide.

Seen " Star Wars " there for the first time when I was 20.

Seen the live production of " Rocky Horror Show " there when I was 17.

A mate and I drove all the way from Perth To Adelaide to see " Joe Cocker " when I was 22.

    R.I.P Joe.

Yes, Adelaide is alright, big country town really.

    ^^

It's funny about the cost thing.

I have become conditioned to expect a cost of 1 K a week when I go back home, I get free accommodation by the way.

By the time I run around the joint seeing friends, entertaining, petrol, camping, bills and other shit it's a Thousand buks a week when I'm outside Thailand.

Fokin hate to be living there full time.

    Sorry to hear that.

Australia is a fantastic place to be when shit like this goes down.

In Thailand you more than likely would be dead if not seriously cashed up to pay the massive bill.

Hence I will always maintain my Private health cover. Serious shit goes down and I'm straight back home in to Hospital.

It's probably the best of the West. But I want no bar of it. Asia is the place it is really happening. I am quite happy to watch it stultify and calcify from a distance.

Incidentally- Adelaide has the nicest people in Oz. Ask any aussie who has been there. Sumfin to do wiv being a backwater, probably. But the myth of the relaxed aussie lifestyle has always been just that. Look at the conditions, and look what they made from it. It didn't fall into their lap.

System usually hasn't failed me when I needed it. Had to give up 50k job to care for my father with middle-stage dementia, Govt. pays assisted living payment of $260 per week better than nothing and he'll be in residential care by Xmas.

I can well understand why you say that and I feel the same.

On the other hand its very comforting to know we have the Aussie system if ever need to access it.

Best of both worlds really innit.

True- ahh the delights of having a socialised national healthcare system. Didn't really wanna dis Oz tez, although maybe I did. It's still the best of the west, but I'm still an asiophile.

No problems for me mate, I am a permanent tourist.

I go back every six months to show my face, maintain my Health Insurance, maintain a Gaff, maintain a car and Van.

So I suppose at the end of the day I go on a little holiday twice a year.

Cocky ain't got shit on me, he can get fooked.

^ That's the way I will do it. Stay put for the NZ summer and the take off at the first hint of winter. And medical repatriation insurance just in case.
