'Our' pasar malam . . . evening market in KL

We live in a fairly Chinese-dominated area, most houses are owned by Chinese and businesses are owned and run by them - so, our market is also Chinese-oriented, not a bad thing as Malay markets are basically just fried food . . .
Aside from these stalls, there are lots of clothing, electronics, shoes etc.. stalls but the food is different here - and generally quite good.

We don't go very often, perhaps once a month - can't get fresher veggies than at the market

    Egg/dairy sellers

Durian, of course (sadly the season has ended)

Lots of rice dishes cooking up . . .

Chinese medical 'cures' are on hand . . .

Cricket catchers in the adjacent field . . .

    More soon . . .

or sometimes we call them pasar kaget, which literally means surprise market, because they 'pop' up each evening.

Most of the smart ones moved to Singapore, Australia or Malaysia, or at least have a home there and kids living/studying there.

Having anti-Chinese pogroms every few years, gangs of thugs murdering scores of them tends to make people feel a tad insecure.

These respective SE Asian cultures certainly owe a debt of gratitude towards the historic Chinese, whom in part, are responsible for the modern economies.

Naturally, the natives have never seen it that way.

Of course they do, but look at the attitude on TD about Thai-Chinese (are there any other, by the way? Just which ones came earlier or later on in history) - without the (new) Chinese, Thailand would be a mosquito-swamp with no infrastructure.

    Of course not . . . it's called envy.

I'd like to know more about the Thai aboriginals. Wonder if there are any left. Some of the world's oldest bronze working has be found in NE Thailand. And I've seen ancient cave paintings at Op Luang in Chiang Mai. But never heard much at all about who these people are and how much they mixed in with the modern Thais.

Like in Malaysia, the aboriginal people are still around, but extremely marginalised - only in Sabah and Sarawak do they wield any form of power or recogntion
