    Anatomy of a murder . . .

    . . . a durian murder.

In season and brilliant as it will get. Unlike Thailand, durian are collected when ripe - never cut down off the tree. They are sweet, bitter and/or bittersweet . . .orange, white, yellow etc...

We went and bought them from an Orang Asli village (the original people of peninsular Malaysia - most still live in the jungle and live off the forest with some basic agriculture and herding)
Their durian are smaller and the taste varies not only from one durian to another but even within one durian.

    Excellent stuff:

    . . . and finally . . .

    Burp!

I like a bit of durian now and again but I really don't like burping afterwards. Durian tinged burps are not my preferred burp.

What variety of durian are those, PH?

Oh, but once you've eaten durian the burps will keep the taste alive for hours after.

At the moment D24 or Musan King are de rigeur . . . but these are called 'Durian Asli', basically wild durian - an amazing array of tastes

Save some seeds, Duriankilla, like to see if a wild variety can grow up North.

We have tried to grow Durian many times. Fine in a pot but always perished once planted in the soil of our garden. Shame as it would be marvellous to pick and eat our own Durian

Tassini, no idea where 'location: Somewhere' is, but read these links a bit and see if 'Somewhere' is where and how they will grow.

Totally agree. Revolting. The only thing I won't eat. Hate the smell, hate the texture - it's like eating something that's been rotting for weeks.

Philistines . . . I am both shocked and ever so disappointed that you and xanax are soul-mates.

Did I mention I am shocked?

Unlike Cheddar, Camembert, Gorgonzola, Brie or Stilton, all of which have been rotting for months or for years, right?

Point. I should have said "like a dead rat that's been rotting for weeks".

I trust the good folks at Makro were displaying them fresh outside the doors...?

The only durian you might find in Makro are of the plastic sealed variety.

Not the one near me. They have a whole section of chopped-up animal parts, rows of durian whole and 1/2'ed - it's real Baan Nok, man...

The place stinks but prices are OK
