    First Croc of the season...

    Daybreak...
One of the dogs barking - excited.

To my surprise, spy a 15-footer headed down the bank.
No one swims in this section of the Nan.

Supposedly, they've all headed down river - Nakhon Sawan.
    I think not.

Makes two of us. The Siamese crocodile (the freshwater one) is all but extinct in the wild in Thailand, although there are efforts to re-introduce it. Possibly an escapee if there are farms around.

For the estuarine (salt water) crocs, believed to be long gone and not that sort of area.

    Big monitor maybe.

I really love the extreme nature (I mean in your face) of LOS. Even in CM, you spy rats a foot long (30.5 cm), not including the tail. I've seen so many species of birds and trees, which all seem to flower during a different part of the year and such beautiful flowers!

I lived along the river for a month near Singburi and used to see really huge monitor lizards swimming past all the time. No crocs though. I saw a single insect once, at night, as I was walking along a path but I thought someone dropped a cigarette butt or match. When I bent over I saw a worm like creature maybe as long as the last joint of your finger but way narrower with a fucking headlamp on the top of its head. It didn't go out, it didn't blink, there were no others like it there, when I stood up again, it was still shining bright enough to draw your eyes to it as you walked by in total darkness. And I've seen swarms of fireflies filling a whole field for one or two nights and then never again and I used to cross that field daily for 3 years (in Phayao). I feel like I'm finally having my childhood after spending my actual childhood in dysfunctional suburban America. God I love the purity of nature here.

^ That's a forthright expression, Mr. Boy. Thank you. Rare to get feelings expressed in one's direction, these days. I find the rare occasion myself to physically express strong emotion once in awhile, even though, like toddaniels, am sans wife, gf, significant other. I don't often climb mountains and even less often get to the summit, but when I do, there's such a natural release of joy that tears and hugs are shared all around. Even after "unsuccessful" climbs or treks, the sheer physicality of the experience brings about a bonding with your teammates that make hugs and smiles a part of every greeting from then on. I was coming down in the elevator of my 15 story condo bldg. in CM the other day with a delivery boy from the local Pizza Hut. He turned to me and said "Kru Bill?". I was so shocked, (to my toes) when he told me I was his teacher in middle school 3-4 years ago in Phayao, I just had to give him a squeeze.

Actually you mean to say during the monsoon floods of Yinglucks era? No gators escaped anywhere in Thailand during the 2004 Tsunami of record.

In reality it was a 6 inch lizard in his driveway, sunning itself on a rare sunny day in Portland.

Really? Just because of the weather? Haven't been to Portland but thought Seattle was cool/rainy for a big city. Depressing weather but now they're selling weed on the streets. That's my anti-depressant of choice. I still probably wouldn't choose the northwest to live in but Vancouver gets on these top 10-25 most livable city lists regularly.

First Croc of the season? I didn't even know here was a crocodile season in Thailand! What are the official croc season dates, Jeff?

I do know sarcasm is the lowest form of humor, that you used an idiom to tell me the previous post was beyond my ability to understand it and that by ignoring replies like yours I'm taking the high road, which I take to mean is the morally superior approach.
