60 years plus, are you worried?

There seems to be a lot of negativity toward teflers, some may well be be justifiable. Personally, I don't begrudge anyone trying to make a living or looking for an experience, but as far as teaching goes, you either have it or don't, qualified or not. I was married to a teacher in the UK.

However, I get the impression there is a lot of disgruntled old buggers around on these forums. May I surmise and assume that these old twats for the majority are low achievers in life? No, I'm not talking about your past 9 to 5 and your present pension, but your actual achievement(s)!

    Scenario:
You left your wife (as I did) snagged a young woman a tad older than your daughter that after a few years you can just about communicate with and believe it to be a success....

So, your knockin' on, a tad overweight or have the gut of boar, spend your life socializing on line looking for social similarities and worry when your younger lass will bang some younger blood. Is this the cause of such disgruntlement towards teflers and the younger generation here?

    Bring it on......

tsop esuoh god tsrif ym eb siht dluoc?
You bullied, you laughed, you lied, you lost!

Lets be fair...the low end bottom feeders with fuk all else they can do. Why would anyone with any real qualifications come to Thailand to teach English? It certainly isn't the pay scale. Many sad stories regarding the number of ex-pat perv's found out in these schools...

Teflers are an easy target for the disgruntled, they are enjoying life in a land they love living in but are low paid in comparison to other professionals and low pay often puts a target on your back by the disgruntled who measure a persons worth by the size of their wallet.
The Teflers I've socialised with were as pleasant as anyone else I choose to socialise with.

The OP has posed a question that is not sensible or relevant.

Firstly one cannot place a fully qualified western educated Teacher in the same bucket as a broke arse TEFLER scrapping by on 30K per month.

The Western educated fully qualified Teacher in Thailand with years of service under his belt is pulling 100K plus. I know of one earning that in a Private school. These individuals can work anywhere in the world but choose Thailand. Fair crack that.

The TEFLER is only having a laugh scrapping by whilst his luck holds in there. One financial disaster and he is fucked. On the next plane home and onto the dole in his own country.

Anyway, I have no problem with TEFLERS simply because its great fun ripping the piss out of them, but at the end of the day they are working, earning some money and having the best time they can until this Gig goes Tits up.

So fair crack to them but one can never compare a real teacher and a TEFLER.

Like comparing a Horse and a Rolls Royce.

Are the teflers the other half?

And what about the old, married teflers?

The married Tefler must have other sources of income one would gather.

Even if living up Norf one must pay rent and all the other stuff that a human needs to survive plus allow for Visas and normal other financial stuff that comes up.

Jesus, it cannot be possible to survive in Thailand on 30K per month for ever can it.

The wife would need to be working as well EH.

Some people start as TEFLers but go on to become qualified teachers. Some people TEFL for years but some only for a gap year or a few years for a bit of travel and adventure.

Yes but the average Farang does not want to live in the middle of No where and live a life of poverty. What's the point in that unless one is wanted for Murder in his own country.

Also the Thai does not need to pander to the never ending Visa issue that the Farang needs to do.

That said, I'm sure there are a few Farang running around ensconced in a fully involved up North Thai life style but it's not quite the Norm.

Many Farang on very limited funds eventually find their way back home while other scrap out a living and die here.

I'm not talking down to people on limited funds but it's nice to have a few bucks to cover ones arse and enjoy life a tad.

yep and some get free housing etc.

Not sure if its the same still, I believe most teaching contracts states your only allowed to work at the school your contracted to, so once you sign you have to stay at that school, at the end of contract if they don't want to re-new contract you have to leave country in 7 days.

You're right, it isn't a profession I agree, but an experience it is. However, the reason for the thread was yet another 'Tefler Scum' response thread elsewhere.

Just a comment on Farang living on 30 K per month long term.

If we had a pole on Teakdoor and posed the question regards .....

Do you live long term on only 30 K per month I bet the response would be very low.

It's like the guys who live isolated out in these little villages, yes there are a few of them but it's not the desired lifestyle of the average Expat.

I'm not talking KK, Ubon, Udon, Pit or lager towns but these real small backward places.

Most come to Thailand to improve their lifestyle, not live out in the middle of nowhere on fuk all.

Some guys love it, most do not, most want a bit extra.

    Whatever Huh.

As I said in another thread I know a few teflers doing well. Being young they've collared a decent GF also earning so overall they ain't doing to bad. Two of my colleagues also set their own businesses up, one on his fifth who both started here as teflers.

It is down the individual and how much get-up-an-go they have at the end of the day.

Most farangs living in the sticks could live on less than 30,000 a month if they wanted to.

And be happy along the way, some farangs want to show there millionaire status.

    ^^^

    Jackyboy,

No doubt at all that one could live up North in a village for 30 K per month but it's not a life long gig is it.

I suppose it is if one lives under a log.
