Anyone - and sadly this seems to describe a pretty huge slice of the public in many countries - who thinks that there's some kind of magical aura of super-holiness surrounding the retards, racists, nutjobs and fuckheads who make up most of any volunteer army is a fucking idiot. Look at the out-and-out fascism surrounding the death (picture kindly supplied by Boon Mee) of that racist sociopath, Chris Kyle. This is totally unhinged. As for whether soldiers should be vilified or not, anyone joining either the British or American armed forces (and especially the latter) must know that there is an extremely good chance that they will be sent to kill people in completely unjust wars of aggression. Should they be vilified for that? Fucking right they should.Quote:
Soldiers are just that . . . taking orders and following them. To call them all heroes is absurd . . . but the average soldier shouldn't be vilified.
I imagine Boon Mee can, if push comes to shove, rustle up a smidgen of compassion for black Americans killed in uniform.Quote:
is it just white people you mourn?

Quite sad, really
How is that being a good citizen for Memorial Day?! How is that commemorating those who died for the US? Black and white and everything in between.
Quite sad, really
You don't speak Thai so why type in it? And what does 'pax americana and socialism' mean as an answer anyway?Quote:

Like most things in life, my knowledge comes from a variety of sources. Films and TV yes but also books, websites, family (one grandfather was a brigadier, my father was a colonel and one brother served for a short time and left as a captain - there seems to be some kind of diminishment of abilities going on there), schoolmates, chance meetings, etc. etc.Quote:
I'll hazard a guess that your total knowledge of the military is gleaned from movies and TV

Weak as piss, BM

Even sadder that you would make such a derogatory sweeping statement.
How so? Showing a picture of the twin towers being attacked?Quote:

How sad is that . . . Show some respect for Memorial Day
^Not my quote, OR.
Sorry, DK. Corrected, not sure how that happened, but you know I was referring to BM and his less than savoury devating 'tactics'.
Anyway, I shall stop now - point made.
By the way, thanks for being a good sport regarding wearing dresses!

Conscripts mostly. Not heroes, just poor bastards used as cannon fodder. They should be remembered, more often as young men thrown into the meat grinders than actually service their country in any meaningful way (honorable exception for WW2). Those who sent them to die in worthless wars in the Middle and Far East and other places should be remembered too, as rich old men who sent countless poor young men to die so that their bank accounts might be safe.
^ get a clue.
I was talking about your photos - awful lot of conscripts there. Yes, sacrifice. Know what that actually means? Know the difference between the sacrificed and the sacrificer?
And yes, we don't need conscripts any more - poverty is so endemic now that even fighting in some god-awful desert is better than the shit they have to face at home. That one works on the other side too.
