    Most expensive beer

I was staying in the Lebua on Wednesday night, I had 2 small Singha beers in the Sky bar - 823bt incl service charge.

I noticed a glass of champagne ranged from 2400bt to 3600bt

Bit OTT in my opinion, any other examples?

I recall a visit to the Bamboo Bar at the Oriental some 10 years ago and paid 900 baht for a small Heineken and a watermelon juice. Still, the Lebua is clearly taking the piss but then expense account folk and thieving chickenheads might not be troubled.

I'd rather drink Slaps home brewed turpentine than pay that for a beer.

I paid A$158.00 for the room, it is real crazy that a glass of champagne in their bar was basically the same price!

Stopped by the Landmark hotel at the restaurant they have out front for some lunch a few months back and had one of their sirloin deli sandwiches along with a coke and some dessert. I knew the price of the sandwich was 160 baht as I had bought them for take out before. This time I decided to eat there for a change. When I got the bill I was a bit taken back by the price of the can of coke, which amounted to 170 baht when VAT was added. The same can of coke would cost 12 baht from 7-11. The sandwich was good and I may be back for another some time, but I won't be buying a coke at the Landmark again.

Maybe it's the norm to charge outlandish prices at those 'upper crust' hotels, but I find it difficult to accept being blatantly ripped off like that.

Landmark is a decent hotel and where I prefer to stay when in Bangkok
I don't mind paying 2 to 300 baht for decent imported beer but I don't think I could bring myself to drink singa horse piss at 400+ a bottle. I wouldn't drink it if it was free

Yet, you'll return again allowing them to perpetuate the price of anything they see fit, won't you?

Makes sense for those who don't get it.

No one ever thought about looking at the prices first.

    All Hotels charge stupid prices.

I got caught a few months ago, asked for a small bucket of ice and got charged 100 baht to take it to my room.

I rather think if presented with an account for such a modest order I would have called the manager and enquired which of the staff I had paid to take home and fuck.

Sky Bar is extortionate, but you're paying for the view really. Consider it an entrance fee for probably the best aerial view of Bangkok in the city. Cocktails aren't quite so ridiculously priced, and are pretty good so that would be the way to go.

Prices took a big increase after the Hangover II movie so they're cashing in on a lot of the publicity gained from it.

I never really understood the fascination in elevating oneself to some eyrie in Bangkok for the view. I mean, what fucking view? Several hundred million tons of drearily poured concrete piled high in nondescript form with blinking lights??

I could understand if one was perched up the Eiffel Tower, anywhere in new York, or on Victoria Peak but in Bangkok?

It's clearly not the place for you then. Plenty of people seem to differ though as Bangkok's many rooftop bars are regularly packed out. The view from Sirocco as you walk outside is jaw-dropping, never fails to impress the many visitors I've taken up there.
