    A trip to Laos

Last Thursday my Visa was about to expire , simple, get on a bus to Vientiane and get a new Visa .
I went to depart from Thailand and they asked where my letter was . "What letter is that" I asked . "The letter from your school cancelling your visa" "Its a new regulation that we made up last week" . "I didnt know about that and I dont have a letter" I said .
"Well you cannot leave the Country", they said , I had to go back to my school and get a letter , then take that to immigration to get my visa cancelled . Two days later , I went back to the border .
"Youve overstayed by two days , you cant leave the Country until youve paid your overstay fine " Off I went to pay my overstay fine .
Finally left Thailand and arrived in Vientiane , Laos . Embassy now closed until Monday .
I went to my usual hotel , but it wasnt there anymore , it had been knocked down, either that or it just fell down , it was quite a old hotel . So I went looking for somewhere else to stay .
A local Lady drove by on a pushbike with her daughter on the back . They smiled and waved at me , being a nice polite kind of guy, I smiled and waved back . They pulled over ahead of me and beckoned me over .
The Mother was about forty and the daughter about 20 . The Mother says to me "Would you like my daughter for the night" for 1000 Baht .
Now, I wouldnt engage in such activities , but I didnt want to appear to be rude , so I polity thanked her for her offer, but told her that I was very tired and needed to go straight to sleep .
The Mother then began talking to her daughter in sign language and she said that shes very tired as well and wants to go straight to sleep too. I had to think of another excuse . I said that my hotel doesnt allow guests into the room . More sign language ensued . The mother took some keys out from her pocket and said that I could go and stay in their room and that she wouldnt watch............but if I wanted her to join itn.....it would cost an extra 500 Baht .

Good Lord. It sounds awful. I have a trip to Laos planned for the future. Where exactly did you bump into them and what colour was their pushbike?

i got saddled with a similar con also at the border there and had to fork out 600 baht.
told the guy he robbed me.
    and he understood.

visa was up on the last day of school and then had to get my shit together to travel to
savanakhet for another. it was impossible to do this as visas were issued for exact teaching dates with no leeway for the renewal. fcukers.
any trick to get the extra bahts.

Fluke, hopefully you came up with a good reason not to get together with Mamasahn's daughter. Prostitution is illegal in Lao and it could have been a setup which could cost a sizable fine.

That being said, great story and I have been to Lao many times to obtain my 90 day stamp or get a new visa. A new visa takes two days, so going on Mon., Tue. or Wed. is your best bet. Paperwork goes in one day and you pick up your visa the next, which is why Fri. is not a good day to try for a visa.

As a side note, plenty of ladies and many hotels allow a visitor to accompany you. If this is something you are thinking about doing, make sure your hotel is guest friendly before making a reservation or paying for a room.

Oh, I guess if you are married to a Thai, one can never, ever stray.

Seriously, I was not aware of Fluke's marrital status. My apologies.

Dodgy Ed visas .... this has been a long time coming

Savannakhet is great. Everyone says its boring but I liked it, stayed 3 nights.

There are plenty of restaurants selling good Thai / Lao food, karaoke (non-whore style) pubs and these dusty brothels with little booths where the girls go and sit with you. Don't think I'll be going to Vientianne again. Cheap return flights from BKK I got 8K THB return with Laos airways.

If you like boring places with only retarded people yes it's great.

I love laos, but Savanakhet is even worst than the real countryside.

Vientiane is the only city that deserves this name in Laos and where people are civilized.

Is it more or less believable, than a consultant chef landing a job in Uzbekistan?

Something else happened last time that I was here as well
All that I will say is that it involved ladys of the night, Temples and Monks and a 1000 Bhat.
If that story would have gone public, it would have ended up headline news with jailings, defrockings and deportations .
Could quite possible have gone Worldwide news

^^so if we follow Fluke's story & timeline correctly, this happened in 2015. Supposedly, he was still living with Ben's mom at the time. Ben would've been 1 y.o. or so. And he went to Laos on a visa run. He also did some tefling, or was on an Ed visa. While on the visa run, he did "sign language & etc" with a mother-daughter team. All the while, he's separatwd from his Jap wife who left him (and they're not divorced yet).

This story has become so complicated.

Oh well, all this is happening in Fluke-land.
