    It's called multiplication, Bollie.

The ape-creatures of the Indus have mastered it.

Look up Napiers multiplication system, or Napiers Bones on google.

Its a supposedly simple way to do long multiplication.

It will do your head in, and if this is how they teach thai kids maths, then its no wonder they need a calculator and 10 minutes in 7.11 to work out how much change you get when paying a 50b bill with a 100b note

It's actually a lattice calculator, not Napier bones and she has started wrong.

Each square is filled with the product of the numbers being multiplied, then starting on the lower right you sum the diagonal columns, then read the answer from top left to bottom right.

5x 1 is 5 so the first square is 0/5
    2 x 1 is 2 so the next square is 0/2
    5 x 7 is 35 so 3/5
    2 x 7 is 14, so 1/4

Then start bottom right, 4 is 4
    2, 1 and 5 is 8
    0, 5 and 3 is 8
    0 is 0

Reading top left down and across is 0884

ie, how many times does the teacher write that fecking thing out instead of just printing and copying it?

    Should always write in pencil.
    Easier to erase the mistakes.

This "white-out" gig is so tacky -

Apparently her niece copied all that herself, doesn't look like a 10 year olds writing, does it?

That lattice calculator is a very familiar sight.

My ex #2 uses a very similar 'lattice' to predict the winning numbers for the illegal lottery each day.

Her lattice calculations seem to have a high success rate of winning
