    Skeeter Eaters

Having had dengue fever a few years back with the doc warning me to not get it again, we bought a fan powered mosquito trap for the rental house. It looks like a happy frog with a UV light in its mouth and a fan that sucks the skeeters down to a meshed area in the bottom. It does catch a lot of them, but I had to put a switch on the light as it is too bright when you want to sleep. It also has a one way air valve that never really closes, so if you have trapped a few that are still alive and turn the unit off, they are free to find their way out.

Although it works well as long as you leave it running, I regret buying it after seeing some of the high voltage zapper ones in action that you see for sale now at Makro. Those things make a rather satisfying "smack" every time a mosquito goes to blood sucking heaven. Would be interesting to know how much voltage and capacitive storage they use, but if you are looking for a skeeter eater, high voltage is much more satisfying than a simple sucker. Might still buy one and make a pitcher of margaritas for an evening of mosquito corona watching.

^I can see how that would work, but I wonder if there isn't something better than a CO2 emitter as an attractant. A small piece of stinky cheese, maybe?

^^Tried that set up once and caught not one single mozzie.

A trap with a fan works well only if it has a bag at the bottom that you can hold while turning off the fan so the skeeters don't fly back out

I tried one of those bottle traps years ago and it didn't work for me either.

I have a lifetimes supply of citronella oil (due to very nice TD member).

I have 1 of those little indoor oil burner things in the lounge and haven't seen hardly any mozzies for weeks.

    Smells nice too.

Maybe different bait is needed. One CO2 source competing with several others- humans generating CO2 in their breath- could easily fail.

Not as much as you would think. 10,000 volts in clean air will jump across roughly 1cm. So if you look at the lattice on a mosquito tennis racket you can do the math.

Green is good. Salvaging the laser from an old Pave Tack system sounds more interesting though. Think I will take the middle road and go for high voltage skeetercide...

^ Because it's the size of a laser beam or a mosquito?

Mosquito's are attracted by the smell CO2, right? Then why the fook do they bite mainly around my lower legs and not my face? As I'd have thought that'd being where the biggest concentration of CO2 would be?

^ Might be because carbon dioxide is heavier than air, so it sinks to ankle level when you sit or stand still.

Or i might be talking bollocks.

Women also produce cheese (Smegma) around their clitoris. If I could only get my missus to sleep with her legs open.
