    Solar roadways?

Didn't we have a poster here proposing solar road roofs some time ago.He wasn't taken too seriously at the time.
A mate of LTs I believe.

    Short Documentary about Solar Roadways

Having trouble getting the video to stick.

I should introduce you to an acquaintance who thinks building should have moss growing on them to protect them from solar gain. Until it was pointed out that moss grows on the north facing side of trees, ie the side opposite the sun. (in the northern hemisphere)

I think "heated roads" in places with a lot of snow would be the way to go...There would be no snow build-up at all, since it would melt as soon as it touched down...Good drainage would be needed, so it's all in the planning, as always...

A lot of time and money is spent on snow removal, from the plows and their maintenance and staggering fuel bills, to the person-power and insurance rates from accidents, not to mention the deaths...

I wondered if solar could "heat a wired grid" running through the asphalt...And yes, there's sun in winter...But, energy "storage" has to be considered, of course...For those rainy nights when she's not there...Heh...

I think you will find the amount of heat required per sq m is far in excess of the amount of power generated by 1 sqm of winter sun.

This solar road is made of glass covering solar panels. There doesn't seem to be any mention of the amount of energy required to make all that glass, although in fairness heating up asphalt is not free.

Solar powered parking lots? If industrial or institutional wouldn't they be full of cars during daylight hours? Solar tennis courts? Better if there are enough.
Solar covered piers or pedestrian thoroughfares. Does the US have any of those?

It looks like another solution looking for a problem and appears to be more of a company formed to extract grants from the government rather than a bona fide technical innovation or cost effective solution.

Most people think solar energy is cheap but the exact opposite is true. Local panel based solar energy is probably the most expensive form.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I have a bird night-light that's stuck in the ground outside...And it runs on "air"...Heh...Like perpetual motion...Don't have to touch it again...It's free...

I hear the Irish are planning a manned space mission to the sun to collect solar energy.
They say they plan to go at night when it's not so hot.
