    No stopping progress?

    No stopping progress I suppose:
James Collier knows what I am talking about:

Ten years ago our “village” was maybe 50 Thai style houses; local big village had a market, a hospital a police station, an ATM which did not serve Visa etc and orbitor along a one lane highway.
Today a 4 lane highway with lighting, numerous new construction projects, two new pharmacies, a large 711, a Tesco light and 4 ATMs. Today driving from a much enlarged and now covered market wife points out new construction for a pizza joint. Dear me what next? KFC, Wendy’s, MacDonald’s, Sizzler’s….sigh. ?
We are still on our somewhat isolated 30 odd acres and still have a dirt road past our perimeter, only sign of civilization is the cell tower across the valley.
Sorta looking forward to phoning for delivery of a thin crust meat lovers pizza though….555

    Progress defined.

Guess this term would be up for interpretation.

Perhaps you meant James Collister - aka rubberman.

We had dustbins a while back but alas they were taken back a year ago by the Amphur due to the corrupt Tambon Chief building herself a great big mansion instead of taking care of the Villagers.
But like you say crepitas...new 7/11's Tesco and ATM's......but the Village infrastructure like roads, lighting and drainage are just crumbling !!
But when you don't pay....you have no say

And don't forget now that everyone's new truck is 5 or 6 years old a new car is the latest thing to have, at least around here outside Korat. Most still living in their shack with the tin roof.

    Progress my ass!

Progress and image for everyday folks.
Taking an unnecessary bank loan [that you can't pay back] to pay for unnecessary high sinsot and an unnecessary grand wedding

How many times have we witnessed this?

Take out the sinsot and you have the typical wedding everywhere in the world.

How many pay in cash for their wedding? I did for both in the USA and Thailand. Simple, inexpensive and memorable.

Probably not. If there are no taxes paid then little can be expected. No different here than , US, UK or Indonesia.

That would not be classed as progress, simply a slip into convenient decline.

We have those rubbish bins made out of old tires one bag of rubbish and there full.

Even the remote villages around the lao border have wheelie bins minus the wheels not sure if they give them the bins without wheels or the people take them off and use them for some thing else.

I suspect they don't give them wheels as the buggers would be towing them behind their motor cycles
