Sitting on the balcony in hotel in bkk having my morning coffee. Something running along the electrical reticulation. Slightly smaller than a small dog, larger than a squirrel. Stub tail, brown, very agile. Have crappy eyesight.

What is it?

I am very observant, crappy eyesight 'n all.

I better add, it's mammalian. Lizard not. Not cold blooded. Not grey with yellow spots, or any combo thereof.

I think he is referring to one of the boonie locals from a village in Isaan where EGAT recruit them for line clearing tasks. They are quite myopic and usually harmless unless one falls off on you. Got them all the time in Soi 10.

I would be surprised if it was anything other than a squirrel, Thailand does have them, and I frequently see them running along cables in my home area.

That's what I first thought - well, right after 'wtf is that dog doing on the cable' - but stub tail. I suppose Somchai may have had that for lunch.

Was bigger than the ave squirrel i've seen in Thailand though.

There is an animal called a "black giant squirrel" - but unlikely to be in bkk I would have thought.

No, wasn't black. Sorta medium brown. No white or lighter colouring.

Second thought was humongous rat. No tail.

Probably squirrel as you say, that's lost it's tail somehow. Maybe.

Maybe a slow loris turned into a fast loris when it saw an opportunity to escape from chickenhead exploitation and made a break for it. Or, some other exotic pet like a gibbon found an opportunity to escape. Slow loris have a stub tail and gibbons are tailless.

Note: They don't eat the little wall lizards, either...I thought they would be good wokked like grasshoppers...Thais did not like my suggestion...And told me that old story I posted here in the past about an old Thai lady who did eat them, and when she died alone, they found her rotting body riddled with the wee fckers eating her in turn...
