Sitting on the balcony in hotel in bkk having my morning coffee. Something running along the electrical reticulation. Slightly smaller than a small dog, larger than a squirrel. Stub tail, brown, very agile. Have crappy eyesight.
What is it?

Tookay....??
^ Nice and brown too.
How the hell could you tell it had crappy eyesight?Slightly smaller than a small dog, larger than a squirrel. Stub tail, brown, very agile. Have crappy eyesight.
I think he is referring to one of the boonie locals from a village in Isaan where EGAT recruit them for line clearing tasks. They are quite myopic and usually harmless unless one falls off on you. Got them all the time in Soi 10.
I would be surprised if it was anything other than a squirrel, Thailand does have them, and I frequently see them running along cables in my home area.
and here is a web site, with a lot of info on Squirrels of Thailand (I was surprised at how many varieties there are!

That's what I first thought - well, right after 'wtf is that dog doing on the cable' - but stub tail. I suppose Somchai may have had that for lunch.
Was bigger than the ave squirrel i've seen in Thailand though.

There is an animal called a "black giant squirrel" - but unlikely to be in bkk I would have thought.

No, wasn't black. Sorta medium brown. No white or lighter colouring.
Second thought was humongous rat. No tail.
Probably squirrel as you say, that's lost it's tail somehow. Maybe.

^Excellent question. Squirrel stew is quite tasty.
Yet, obviously both of these simian-types are much much larger than what FF was attempting to describe.....not helpful at all.
I suppose that FF is taken back by all the variety of exotic creatures and creepy-crawlers that SE Asia/Asia has to offer.
He doesn't get out much.
I do trust he'll be getting out of that B100 room that he's staying in.
Must have something to do with Buddha or magic or "pi"...Originally Posted by Little Chuchok

I guess rat...Cook it a little longer at higher temp...Originally Posted by FlyFree
