    Very Brave Lad

    L/cpl Joshua Leakey VC
A very brave young man, well deserved.
Saves a wounded US officer under heavy fire and then leads an attack that results in 11 dead taliban fighters.

    Agreed, well deserved.

However, I just watched the awards ceremony.

Quite correctly the General saluted the VC holder.

Then the bloody General turned it into a farce; did he really need to hug him?

It's not the freaking Oscars after all.

He gets 1500 per year tax free as part of the award and although not obligatory all officers and men of any rank will salute him if he is wearing the medal, some if they see the ribbon.
I also think it is an award that cannot be revoked.

Frank, i dont think you get a hug from a general for a George medal though

It's a different sort of army now. Hugging is quite permissible and indeed to be promoted although I still think it is an offence to do so at a mess dinner.
