    Asleep At The Wheel

It is the reactions of the other drivers that is astounding here. It is as if this is just an ordinary event, which lets face it, it probably is.

They are blinkered fools, existing in self contained bubbles of indifference.

There is no hope for them, none at all.

My BIL had a head on with a sleeping driver 3 month ago.
I see a lot of car, pickups & Truck of the side of the road in my travel.

The good thing about sleeping drivers is that there's at least a 50% chance they may brake instead of accelerating.

The people in the white pick-up were very lucky they didn't get hit. Looks like the driver locked up the brakes and stopped just short of getting flattened. Appears they were missed by less than a meter by the big truck and the lamp post it knocked down. Then they drove off as if nothing had happened.

^ I bet the driver had some 'leakage' in his pants though.

Maybe a combination of the green pick up not having a clearly visible turn signal or not using it, and the big truck driver not paying attention and/or speeding and unable to slow down in time.

So the big truck driver hits his brakes hard and loses control, crossing over into on coming traffic and narrowly missing a head-on collision, instead of bunting the green pick-up from the back side.

Looks like the cause. The green pick slows and stops to turn right with no indicator (fuckwit exhibit #1)

The truck is traveling too fast and too close to the vehicle in front (fuckwit exhibit #2)

The fact that the oncoming pickup managed to slow and stop in time to avoid the truck crossing its path could be the cause of speculation that the driver, being alert to the surroundings, was actually a farang.

    Looks very much like you're 100% correct. 2 things will come from this;

    (1) Fuckwit green pick up driver will continue to slow and stop to turn without indicating early or checking his mirrors to see if any vehicle behind him is no chance of being able to stop in time, or has nowhere to go besides straight up his arse (or putting his vehicle into a paddock obviously).

    (2) Fuckwit truck driver will continue to speed and put his truck into positions where he's got no options should another fuckwit in front of him pull the same stunt. And that will happen. Hourly.

As mentioned by the OP, there's no hope for these people. None at all. It must be great to go through a truncated life without thinking too mutt...

People like this never witness any accidents head on. They usually see the carnage through their rear view mirror, oblivious to the fact that they just caused it.

    Bloody hell. He did too!

Although not, perhaps, his rear view mirror.

Still the fault of the truck. A shame he survived and will likely be behind the wheel of a similar truck very soon.

It's as though they believe they will somehow be held responsible for being in a vehicle and they probably are when PC Somchai rolls up.

These unfortunate incidents are more likely the domain of truckers and coach/bus drivers that are pushed to their extremes to work/drive with little rest between their runs...

This is a mindset that needs to change.

Except for Enitrea, Thailand has the worst per capita road fatality rate in the world. Totally inadequate driver education and no enforcement of traffic laws except for shaking down motorists for petty mechanical violations.

i would think it the mindset of those who can drive on after after seeing an accident like this rather than stopping to offer assistance that needs to change as well.

I'd like to know how the Insurance company handles these claims. ?

Do they void any payment because of broken road rules or do they actually pay up. ?

In the west Insurance would be void.

    Moot.
As insurance, by it's very nature, is just short of a racketeering endeavor.

Truck going way too fast, and likely pickup hand neither working brake lights or turn signals.

    Where was that, looks familiar?
