There Is No Hope For These People, None At All.

Girl, 9, drives car to school

A video clip showing a nine-year old girl driving a car to school posted on a Facebook page has drawn widespread criticism of the parents.

The clip, “Real story, dad allows kid to drive to school (1/12/57)” was posted on a popular You Like Clip page on Tuesday as a follow up from another clip which shows a girl driving in a red car.

As of 4pm Wednesday, the clip had received 962,000 views with 83,295 likes and 12,301 shares. It drew loads of comment, most of which denounce the illegality of allowing the underage girl to drive.

Some people, however, commented that the girl was doing well. Most of the comments concerned safety, not for the girl herself but for other drivers.

According to Thairath online, the girl’s father Yongyuth Mankaprathum asked the public not to condemn his family. He said the girl started driving when she was seven years old. Normally, she drives the eight kilometres to her school in Surat Thani’s Muang district.

The longest trip was from Surat Thani to Phuket when she drove a Land Rover without an accident, her father said.

In the clip, which seems to be taken from the back passenger seat, the father said he allowed his daughter to drive alone while he followed in another car behind her. He admitted that it is illegal and said he will not allow her to drive again.

Mr Yongyuth said the girl was upset and asked why she could not continue to drive as she had never caused an accident, so he had to explain that it is the law.

Pol Col Suwat Suksri, superintendent of Surat Thani police station, has instructed officers to order Mr Yongyuth to report in and pay a 2,000 baht fine. There is no punishment clause for underage drivers, but her parents will be warned, he said.

Yep, at least she can see over the steering wheel, which is a sight better than some of the adults driving around.
Ever wonder why they use window tinting so much?
So you cant see how short the driver is!

Ghee, that 2,000 baht fine will hurt for sure.

Maybe something more along these lines would actually discourage these parents and any other idiots that get such bright ideas. Police should up that fine to 200,000 baht and impound all the parent's vehicles until the fine is paid. If caught again, confiscate the vehicles and sell them for the revenue, and suspend the parent's driving licenses for 5 years (if they even have them).

Oh, and one last thing, I didn't see her using the turn signal either.

That should also go for anyone operating a motor vehicle in Thailand without a proper divers license. This would probably apply to over 50% of the drivers out there. It is closer to 80% here in the village.

^ Great idea except, what are the police going to do with 10,000,000 pick-ups sitting in their compounds because the owners don't have the money to pay the fines.

The police know that the majority of the greater unwashed have no licence, but what can they do about it.

    Anyone remember this underage driver?

There are enough idiots on the road without adding underage drivers to the mix.

Henry Percy was born 20 May 1364 at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, the eldest son of Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland, and Margaret Neville, daughter of Ralph de Neville, 2nd Lord Neville of Raby, and Alice de Audley.[1] He was knighted by King Edward III in April 1377.[2] In 1380 he was in Ireland with the Earl of March,[3] and in 1383 travelled in Prussia.[4] He was appointed warden of the east march either on 30 July 1384 or in May 1385,[4] and in 1385 accompanied Richard II on an expedition into Scotland.[1] 'As a tribute to his speed in advance and readiness to attack' on the Scottish borders, the Scots bestowed on him the name 'Haatspore'.[2] In April 1386 he was sent to France to reinforce the garrison at Calais, and led raids into Picardy. Between August and October 1387 he was in command of a naval force in an attempt to relieve the siege of Brest.[4]

A boy in my fifth grade class drove himself to school one day. Parked right in front of the window. The class went wild. He said his mother was still sleeping and he didn't want to be late for school. Stoney became a legend that day.

Of course his mom, the teacher, and the principle weren't as impressed as us kids.

Surely the problem of 11 year old drunk drivers would be of more pressing concern to you...

In a country where 10 Year olds, are allowed by their parents to ride a MC I don't see that's unusual.
Her brain dead father, obviously relished I in his precocious daughter's skills and Is proud of them.

I wonder why her Dad just doesn't buy her a scooter with helmet and let her get some experience on the road.
Oh yeah, he probably doesn't want her getting hit by some underage drivers in vehicles.

Personally I think it's cool if she has the exceptional skills and experience to drive at age 9.

I just can't fathom what the heck they will do if Lord forbid there was an accident - whether her fault or not. How do you explain that one to the investigator ?

On second thought , I guess Dad's got enough money to explain it to everyone's full satisfaction.

The fact that they have no insurance seems to bear no problem either , same as all those little bastards illegally riding motorbikes to school each day with no licence or insurance , you get one clatter into you , you will be the one paying
